Has he faithfully defended all points of Catholic teaching or has he used his verbal skills to slide, or simply choose to not defend them?

Did you read the attached article, written by Fr Martin, about the teaching of the church?

Even more, did you actually read his own book?

Because it’s constantly forced on people in media, news, etc.

It’s not like people are running around throwing parades to get other sins socially acceptable. Hollywood and other media outlets are constantly shoehorning LGTBQXYZ characters into movies and TV shows for no other reason than to have a gay character.

For example, why is this needed? What does it add to the story?

Read the attached article and you will know what I mean when I say homosexual persons are singled out by Catholic church institutions (in particular, in this article).

I commend you. We should always be open to other people and their experiences. We should be willing to walk with and accompany people, to listen to them, etc.

Often, people who are most black and white about it (as you say) are the ones who are not familiar with real-life gay people. They don’t have close Catholic friends or family.

Sure…he’s a clever priest…I give him that. Need to read more broadly about him and his writings and silly tweets.

They wouldn’t be struggling if they’d keep it to themselves. A gay person should be able to go their whole life and no one know who they’re attracted to.
but wouldn’t you agree that because sexuality is an important thing in life, and if someone is struggling with it, shouldn’t they receive help? I obviously don’t agree with the whole public announcement thing. Not everyone needs to know about one’s sexuality, but at the same time, keeping it all in to the point where no one knows you are suffering, well my friend, i can only say it is depressing to live like that.

One should be able to tell someone he or she trusts about these sort of things, it really does help and could actually cause a lot of healing

And I do understand that, too.

But clearly the case is different for some people, including around these forums.

So like, sometimes I wonder how I would think about homosexuality and act towards gay people if I myself was not gay. Would I be as understanding? Would I simply find it threatening to my faith? I can be defensive at times (heck, I’m on an Apologetics forum). So would I be “weirded-out” at gay people as many of my peers are (say, the ones I mentioned above at the gym)?

I tend to be a sensitive person in general, so I would hope that I’d be just as accepting.

Even I catch my Catholic family members, who are usually kind and decent, throwing the “gay” word around in a mocking way. It’s not right, and it’s not compassionate. But would I be like that if I myself was not gay? I hope not.

Regardless, it’s no excuse to behave with hatred or willful ignorance simply because you (whoever) are not gay, or does not have gay family members, etc.

There are far more consequential books in the queue than that one. OMG

I am not gay, but throughout my life I’ve seen friends go through homophobia. My Dad is homophobic and so is my elder brother. They are very open about it too. I have been guilty of it myself, which is something I feel terrible for. I have no problem with having gay friends, but I have to be honest and say that, though I am as kind as I can to lesbian women, I just don’t feel comfortable being their friend. Now, I want to make it clear that I fully embrace Holy Mother Church’s stance on gay marriage and homosexuality. However, I do think that there is homophobia, and as Catholics we should be trying to give support and understanding to Our gay brothers and sisters. We shouldn’t try to ignore or cover up the problem you know? I am homophobic towards lesbian women, and I am working my best at not being this way anymore because it’s not right for me to be this way. I am sorry Catnolic1seeks. The suffering you go through will be more than useful to Our Lord. Offer it to Him for both gay Catholics and for the rest of us so we can all work together to follow Our Lord’s law and will with love and fidelity.

That is what they say. But i love the expression on their faces when i say that i experience SSA but don’t affirm gay marriage. They seem so confused

BUT that is just my experience

Huh? You were saying he wasn’t orthodox about church’s teaching on homosexuality.

SO I asked if you actually read his book, which supposedly started the whole mess in the first place.

It really doesn’t. Unfortunately, those who stand up for marriage being between a man and a woman only are accused of being homophobic by those who think everyone should endorse and promote a lifestyle that is referred to as an abomination in the Bible
I think the issue for many is that there are those who stand up or marriage being between a man and a women to the exclusion of it being between two people of the same sex. In other words, homosexuals I know take no issue with men and women being married. Rather, they take exception to others dictating how homosexuals are supposed to live their lives. If one isn’t Catholic, they wonder why Catholics feel they should be bound to the Catholic way of thinking on this issue. It is no different to them than if Catholics expected non-Cathlics to follow all sorts of Catholic rules, like going to church every sunday or raising their children in the fath. This creates animosity and acrimony.

How does that work out? It seems so weird but interesting for a lesbian couple to say that.

I know a gay couple who have been together for something like 30 years. Similarly, they are not for gay marriage either.
