Why can’t more clerics and lay see as clearly and speak so charitably as this Cardinal?

It’s a fabrication for political purposes, and to side step sounder arguments on the lack of science.

The “lobby” doesn’t have science or logic or natural law (or Scripture)…and so they invented their own KKK.

It’s like the fabrication of “black church” burnings during Bush 1, Bush 2, but not Clinton years!!!

It works because the brains of most adults are as robust as soupy mash potatoes, swayed by emotion.

And that’s what I meant by mash potatoes. Most people can’t see through the fog of the lobby…and worse, don’t want to!

But why is a certain group (people who are attracted to the same sex) often experiencing prejudice and hatred in countries like Russia? They were targeted for their homosexuality
 
Silly made up word and complete misuse of the suffix “phobic.” The radical left SJWs love to make up new terms or distort existing ones and then bludgeon everyone else with them. Like “cis-.” Not to mention the idiotic new made-up pronouns.
 
One thing is becoming clear.

The “homophobia” argument of the lobby has run out of gas.

It no longer sways like it used to.

They know science isn’t their friend on this topic, Scripture isn’t their friend, common sense, natural law…and their “fear mongering” argument has petered out. Their argument lacks - well - fecundity and liveliness. No surprise there.

What’s left but endless and frivilous lawsuits…and this too will backfire…after a bit of flash.

The “half life” of Fr Martin’s daily woe is me tweets has passed. No one cares. The audience he pitches to has become ever more self-absorbed.

‘Homophobia’ is a loaded term.
Hatred towards gay people exists. Some in the Church (beyond the Tiber too) have had a double standard when it comes to sins committed by heterosexuals and homosexuals (or SSA as some prefer). Some have excused the sins of heterosexuals simply to justify their targeting of homosexuals/SSA.
That said, there are some political activists who do shout ‘homophobia’ simply because a person holds to the definition of one man and one woman as seen in Genesis 1 and reiterated by Jesus Himself. This broadening and flippant use of the term and conflating maintaining Christian marriage and teachings on sexuality with hate is wrong and slanderous. I believe this is what the Cardinal is trying to say.

Homophobia, which commonly refers to hatred of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuals, certainly exists and there is no denying it.

I think the Cardinal means, by homophobia, something else. In the context of the article, it seems to have something to do with political correctness. I think those who are promoting the recent gender ideology have used the term homophobic to label those who do not accept their ideology, many of whom do not in fact hate homosexuals.

ahhh that makes sense. Of course the gay lobby has made it seem that not accepting gay marriage is being homophobic. Of course, that is false for a variety of reasons

This is exactly what happened to mainline Protestants in the 20th century when they abandoned traditional teaching on marriage/abortion/birth control.
 
If homosexuals kept their bedroom proclivities to themselves, none of this would be an issue. Instead, they parade around daring the rest of us to object. And so, we quiver in the corner afraid to be accused of “homophobia” which carries with it the same horror as being accused of racism. Homosexuals specifically target the Catholic Church because she has never backed down on her teachings regarding sexual morality. The “tolerant” Marxist left are rabidly intolerant to anyone who disagrees with them. And, they are all too happy to prove it through the courts when a business refuses to carry out their demands. Pandora’s Box has been opened for some time now and we are seeing the bowels of hell erupting from it.
