I know the basics of the concept of cooperation with evil (e.g. remote material cooperation vs. formal cooperation, etc).
My question is, is it alright to buy products from a musician, artist, or other occupation if they are homosexual? Like, just for example, if there is a store whose owner is known to be gay, is it alright to buy something from their store if you do not agree with any homosexual actions they may perform, do not condone it, and don’t know if the money will go to that exactly? Just curious, even though I gave a very lengthy scenario and overall post. 😬

Edit: I’m not talking about donating to organizations whose purposes are directly promoting evil things. Idk what the store owner from the scenario does with his money 🤷‍♂️

@Jbrady Of course not, as in no you can’t? Sorry, my brain is a little slow today…

Why would buying a product from someone condone their lifestyle? On that same premise, if you knew that a straight person was living in adultery, or cohabitating, would you also refuse business with them? Are we to inquire if a person is without sin before we do business at all?

No problem! Like I said, I am just slowly processing things today (and yesterday lol)

If I know they are homosexual, it’s likely because they are vocal and / or activist about it. Most likely they are also very liberal and oppose other Catholic moral values. They may be vocal / activist about that as well. My personal list of artists, actors, etc. I won’t support is extensive.
If somebody doesn’t like that, tough.

I agree with what you said.

It’s probably good to maintain perspective, though.

Liberalism isn’t particularly the issue at all. Christ, whom we are all called to be like and to rely on, was very non-traditional and very liberal.

When, however, people become divisive about the source of our daily bread, then its self-defeating.

The next petition of the Paternoster is “forgive us as we forgive those against us”.

“Tough” may or may not be the conclusion you want to draw. It’s an ambiguous term. If by tough you mean “mortifying” a temptation, then that is the right thing to do. But - if there’s no temptation - then I wouldn’t let it make you hard-hearted either.

In either case. we are called to charity, compassion, goodwill, faith, hope, love, kindness, meekness, and so on. All the virtues.

I don’t feel a need to forgive artists I don’t support. They’ve done nothing personally to me. I simply don’t support them. Don’t have to.

You are always free to judge and discriminate against others. However, don’t do so under the guise of religion. That’s not what Christianity teaches. Christ did not reject sinners. Rather, he forgave them, and rebuked those who came to cast the first stones. It’s one thing to hate the sin, it’s quite another to condemn the sinner.

Do you have this concern about every other sin? Are you worried about doing business with a straight person who might have sex outside of marriage? Maybe someone who is divorced and remarried? Do you check and make sure they don’t drink too much before you buy something? After all, they might take your money and buy booze.

You see how silly this gets, I’m sure. There’s nothing wrong with doing business with a gay person. They have every right to make a living, and doing business with someone doesn’t mean you necessarily support every aspect of their lives. That’s just

You might as well ask if it’s OK for a Jew to buy a table from a Gentile. The obvious answer: yes.

Same thing, precisely.

Since when did homosexual activity somehow become the sin of all sins? That’s not Catholic moral theology. It’s just one sin among countless others. Would you refuse to do business with a straight man who has ever looked lustfully at a woman? After all, that’s adultery (Matthew 5:27-28). Besides, you don’t know the details of a person’s sex life just by knowing their orientation - and the church teaches that homosexual orientation is not in and of itself sinful.

“ Mortal sin is a radical possibility of human freedom, as is love itself. It results in the loss of charity and the privation of sanctifying grace, that is, of the state of grace. If it is not redeemed by repentance and God’s forgiveness, it causes exclusion from Christ’s kingdom and the eternal death of hell, for our freedom has the power to make choices for ever, with no turning back. However, although we can judge that an act is in itself a grave offense, we must entrust judgment of persons to the justice and mercy of God.”

I was talking about if he had performed homosexual actions and it is known. I mean, I got my answer from people.

Sorry I didn’t clarify there!

If an artist is loud about their homosexuality and promoting it through their music and lifestyle I avoid them .Nothing scrupulous at all in that.

Yep. If an artist wants to trumpet their homosexuality, one is free to ignore them. Nothing “discriminatory” about it. The artist makes their choice to broadcast their lifestyle or not. I don’t watch television shows featuring homosexual relationships either. And I don’t read books by writers who celebrate homosexuality. Not even if the writer is Catholic. Not even if the writer is a “celebrity” Catholic. If somebody doesn’t like that, tough.
