I used to be something of a cafeteria catholic. Over this year I have grown to agree with all of the vaticans teachings. Except for one. I just can’t understand why Homosexuals can’t be married. Why is this?

Good question Fire.

There’s several reasons why it’s not possible.

Marriage is a Divine institution and its deffinition can be found in genesis between adam and eve.

Same sex couple does not fit the definition.

They are unable to procreate (“be fruitful and multiply” ), man and woman are compliementary and are able to reveal much of who the spouse is (after looking at eve adam says “this one at last is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh” )

In same sex couples, you don’t get any of this.
Also, same sex “marriage” is against natural law. Our bodies were created in such a way that we can tell how they are used and for what purpose (biology tells us this) …the sexual act was obviously made for a man and woman (by the way the body is designed) .

Also it was God’s intention to make us in His “own image and likeness” …God as we know if trinity (a family) . A man and woman are able to actually create a family and work with God in His procreative process and produce family = image and likeness of God in the world.

This is just a basic idea. I hope it helps…if you have any more questions …don’t hesitate.

I HIGHLY suggest looking into “theology of the body” google Christopher West…amazing stuff!

On it not being natural. From what I remember around 30% of animals practice Homosexuality. What other reasons are there?

So, we’re going to base human morality on what animals do ?

There’s a BIG red flag there.

A dog might even try to hump a pillow or leg…they do what they do out of primal instict and feeling.

We humans are called and were created for something greater. Having a free will and made in God’s image and likeness.

Accursed. This article claims that that translation is faulty. I don’t know whether these teachings are true or not so could you please help? The pais part is interesting though.

That is true Michael. I would not base my morals on how my dog behaves. I cede the point.

lol thanks.

Yea i heard that particular argument a month ago …and I was like… “wow…that’s sooo obvious!”

I mean i think that should pretty much cover it shouldin’t it ?

It simply does not fit into the description of the divine institution of marriage and therefore isin’t a marriage.

It is not procreative
It does not show God into the world
It is contrarary to natural law (how God made us) …to use our bodies against the natural design is wrong and hurts our dignity of who we are as Gods children.

All that being said…

Keep in mind the church teaches that practicing homosexuality is sinful (we are ALL responsible for our feelings and bodies) …but it teaches that simply having homosexual desires/tendencies unwillfully is NOT a sin.

We’re all called to love…but we ALL have responsibility over our feelings and bodies and when and with whom we engange sexually

Some homosexual couples do say they love each other. Did God not say that the law was Love?

lol, I’ve never heard of that. What does that mean ?

Like they would be “married” but abstain from sexual relations ?

Pretty much. It is named after Mary and Joseph’s marriage from their celibacy.
