Luke 12:47-48
47That servant who knew his master’s will but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will shall be beaten severely;t 48and the servant who was ignorant of his master’s will but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating shall be beaten only lightly. Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.
 
this brings up the teaching of purgatory.

We that KNOW (much being given) the truth through the teaching of church or through our conscience …we may go through the suffering here on earth (being called biggot, loosing friends etc etc because of the teaching) …

but those THROUGH no fault of their own …did not know…STILL must be purified by truth in purgatory (they’ll do their learning and catching up there) .

I wonder if God would be ashamed of Catholics so against their fellow humans for just wanting to marry the one they love or even openly declare they love a person of the same sex. This discrimination is equal to racism in the past and I doubt a loving God would support such a horrible campaign and horrible views that many Catholics hold. From reading many posts on here, it seems as though being a true catholic and a good person aren’t really all that synonymous.
 
We aren’t supposed to hate or discriminate against them. We are to tell them that they re in a state of mortal sin and explain why.
 
Because not to do sp (as fire has mentioned) would be discriminatory against their souls by permitting them to rot in darkness and take a chance on their eternity.

I’d read the previous posts on this topic again. The church does just as Jesus does. He was not a person that gave everyone a hug and said " oh, i love you just the way you are…" He came and actually taught a higher standard of living. He loves the sinner but hates the sin.

He was a devoute Jew! A religion that took VERY strong stance on sin and had an INCREDIBLY heave rubric on how to live your life! VERY HIGH expections!

When Christ forgave the prostetute that were about to stone He said “and sin no more!” He loves the sinner but hates the sin because what it does to His children.

“God wills not the sinner to die, but to come to the knowledge…” He forgave her, insisted she did not sin again and saved her from being stoned.

Is Jesus a discriminator/hateful because He acted like this ? Is His body the Church any more guilty for doing the same ?

But homosexuality is not the fault of the person, so why would they be sent to “rot in darkness” (I assume you’re referring to hell?)
 
They are not sent to hell for being homosexual. They may not even be sent to hell for practicing homosexuality. It is just a mortal sin like fornification and adultery.

People don’t go to hell for being homosexual. It’s only homosexual sex acts that are sinful – those are the person’s “fault”.

This is not discrimination. There is nothing inherently sinful about race. However homosexual sex acts are inherently evil. Don’t let subjective culture determine for you the meaning of “good person”. There’s nothing loving about being for other people’s sins that take them away from God.
 
Well I’m sorry but I can’t prove you wrong? If you were right why would we ( should I say I) do so?
 
🙂 I follow the arguments and I accept the teaching…BUT…

Let’s put this into practice in the real world. A great friend of many years’ standing confides in me that he is attracted to men and women and because of the shame he felt, has had short flings with men and in the past and now that society has changed and become more accepting, he has found himself a male partner.

I love my friend, in the truest sense - I don’t feel a sexual attraction to him. What can I do?

I can pray for him
I can state my beliefs to him - putting them in context, which is that as a Catholic I believe all sexual acts outside marriage and open to life are wrong, but I would no sooner stop loving and praying for and enjoying the company of my friends who are having sexual relations outside marriage / using contraception / masturbating (not that my friends tend to talk about that one!) …
When a gay couple found out I was a Catholic and looked utterly bemused, because I get along wonderfully with them, I just said, “God made you - that’s reason enough for me to love you” and left it there.

However, if we do this, are we sort of condoning their acts? Or are we being truly non-judgemental and loving and leaving it to God to judge?

PS - I am neither the OP or his regular correspondent. That would mean one of them had changed their name to Rose :eek: which would be a bit ironic!

The mortal sin within homosexuality IS acting upon being attracted to the same sex i.e. being more than just friends…
