CCC 2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered , constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

New form They do not choose their homosexual condition; for most of them it is a trial

The bold type seems to have been changed; how, by whom, and who authorised this?

I just checked the Catechism on the Vatican website. This is what is on the Vatican website at this moment:

[2357] Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial.

[2359] Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

Ah. I see. Your quote is from the original 1994 version. It’s not new language; it’s the original language.

so why 2 versions?
Why 2 on the website? You’d have to ask the Vatican webmaster. But the current, “objectively disordered” language, is the change. It is listed in my paperback copy as one of the modifications from the Editio Typica.

I’m afraid you’re going to have to calm down.

One is the 1994 version, one is 1997. The version you’re referring to as the change is the original version.

Oh, I am very calm my dear friend

Well, to be fair, when you ask questions like “Who authorized this?” and use terms like astonishing, it comes across as if you’re a little worked up about what is, at worst, an inattentive webmaster.

Saint Pope John Paul II approved and promulgated the text in 1992 and published in French and then translated to other languages, English in 1994. But then Saint Pope John Paul II promulgated the Latin typical edition in 1997, the official version. Because of the official text was different the other languages were also ammended as second editions, English in 2000.

Not at all, but If the objectively disordered part has been removed it changes the teaching of Jesus
