VATICAN CITY - Homosexuals can attend a Catholic family congress in Philadelphia during Pope Francis’ U.S. visit this year but won’t be allowed to use it to attack Church teachings, the city’s archbishop said on Thursday.

“We don’t want to provide a platform at the meeting for people to lobby for positions contrary to the life of our Church,” said Archbishop Charles Chaput. The Catholic Church teaches homosexuality is not sinful but homosexual acts are.

“We are not providing that kind of lobbying opportunity,” he told a news conference presenting the September 22-27 congress known as the World Meeting of Families. >

Note : The article is wrong to say that the Church teaches that homosexuality is not sinful. That is the opinion of some bishops and moral theologians, but it is not a traditional doctrine of the Church. Homosexuality is not merely an inclination,it is both a disordered inclination of the will towards evil behavior and the evil behavior itself.

No, actually you are wrong. Homosexuality by the normal definition is based on attractions not actions. Furthermore the Church recognizes that there is more to homosexuality than the desire for gay sex.

WASHINGTON—
A U.S. bishop says homosexuals will be able to attend a global meeting of Catholic families in Philadelphia during a visit by Pope Francis. About 15,000 people are expected to attend lectures and take part in workshops during that five-day event in September, aimed at strengthening sacred family bonds. The pontiff will visit during the last two days of the meeting.
Same-sex parents are becoming a reality despite religious and civil laws. The Catholic Church has firmly opposed same-sex marriages, but Pope Francis has expressed more tolerance for homosexuality than his predecessors.

Armed with today’s Supreme Court ruling, there will most certainly be “gay marriage” protests and demonstrations surrounding the meeting venues.

No. The Catechism does NOT say that same-sex attraction is, itself, sinful. In fact, it specifically says that homosexual persons can “approach Christian perfection.” Just like heterosexual persons.

Just what is that supposed to mean? What – in the real world – is that supposed to mean? Furthermore, what does the phrase “normal definition” mean? There’s nothing “normal” about homosexuality. The Church’s definitions confuse me. I think it’s legalese to avoid talking plainly about a problem that is leading people (and nations) to Hades in a hand basket.

But let’s give the Church its due. I suppose that maybe some lgbtq’s sublimate their desires in order to live chastely in obedience to God and nature’s law, and if that’s the case, then the Church’s definition holds water. But my guess is that there are not too many lgbtq’s who are sublimating their desires. Instead, most homosexuals express their desires physically, in blatantly sexual and erotic ways – and that, my friend, is mortal sin. The whole issue of same-sex so-called marriage is about acting on desires, not on attractions.

A definition based on attractions rather than actions is less than helpful in defining a person’s proclivities. When we define the sin, we define the sinner.

The definition it was coined with and most people use.
