Cardinal Tong is a great Cardinal. No scandals around him unlike others.

Given his statements, it’s probably going to be impossible to discuss this subject without mention of Cardinal Zen. That hardly means that the purpose of any posting about it is to “bash” him.

I don’t apologize for exposing the truth. Those who live in the light have nothing to fear.

I applaud Cardinal Tong for speaking out. The silent majority of Hong Kong Catholics would be grateful. Unfortunately in this world it is the extremists who get all the media attention.

Stop the implicit and explicit bashing of Cardinal Zen.

Would that you were nearly as critical of the atheistic Communists in Beijing.

Ratio1 didn’t even mention Cardinal Zen. If you want CAF to ban all discussion of the China issue, take it up with the moderators. You have no authority to tell other members what they can discuss here.

The purpose to post all these news thread is to present the other view not usually reported by the media of the West so that people can get a balanced view. now of course one can accuse me of being bias on this forum because I only post one side of the story, but that is because i’m confident that people on this forum has had more than enough dosage of the other side from the media. But just in case anyone who doesn’t, i would encourage people to read what Cardinal Zen has to say as well. Remember my purpose is to balance the views so that people can make up their own mind. People are always entitle to their views but to be ignorant of crucial facts would be regrettable.

so to be quite honest, if I’m bashing anyone, i’m bashing the media of the West.

Facts are facts, and one cannot just ignore these.
eg the “Vigil prayer” that the anti-China HK Catholics held to pray that this supposedly evil deal doesn’t go through, only about 200 people turned up, and that is already according to them. A pitiful number I have to say.

I think Hk people in general are waking up to the fact that to protest for the sake of protesting doesn’t acheive anything. I’m not naive enough to believe the silent majority are pro-China, I think the silent majority of HK people are suspicious of the communist government, but most feel for their Chinese brethren in China. But they are starting to get sick of these radical anti-China protests. Another example is that the radical “pro-democracy” members of parliament wanted to host another “occupy government building” to protest against the custom clearance arrangement for high speed rail. In the past millions came for the “occupy central” movement, this time less than 20 people came. Even I would expect a few hundred people if not thousands of people would show up. I couldn’t believe how pathetic it was. This pitiful show-up obviously not reported in the media of the West as expected.

This is pro-Communist propaganda, plain and simple. “anti-China.” “only about 200.” “Pitiful.”

Thank you for agitating for my case.
This demonstrates that as long as there is no deal, Catholic Bishops are continually going to be under threat.
Once the deal goes through, those Chinese officials who are doing this will not be able to operate like this again without impunity. (Because there won’t be any underground bishops anymore)
No one disputes there are these hardline communist officials, they, like Cardinal Zen, are trying to thwart the deal at the 11th hour. (Albeit standing in completely opposite positions)
Many of us in Hk long for the day when we can visit China and openly practice our faith without fear of persecution.

That’s right. It’ll be just like Vietnam. Since this arrangement was in place in Vietnam We’ve see a growth in Catholicism in Vietnam.

For the church to grow surely it will grow more when it is legitimate rather than illegitimate? If bishops are being threatened surely it is easier to protest through diplomatic channels than to sit there and can’t do anything because they are illegitimate in the country?
But I actually doubt that will be a problem. China hasn’t significantly threatened it’s own bishops. So it’s unlikely to do it in the future.

So by your path of reasoning Christ Jesus should have worked with the High Priest and the Sanhedrin rather than calling out their hypocritical Faith? And all of the Blessed Martyrs throughout the ages were wrong to take rigid stands for truth and merely dialogue and given in?
“I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father save by me.” Except when some totalitarian government requires you to follow their mantra in which case exceptions can be made.
Funny, I do not remember that being in any Church teaching or Scripture lesson I have seen.
