I can vouch for this. When I went to Iran, it was such a clear, but subtle oppression. My mother got in trouble for having her sleeves rolled up.

:sad_yes: There is a book called Nine Parts of Desire The Hidden World of Islamic Women. It talks about how unfair it is for a woman living in an Islamic country. The author traveled to Iran and she had to wear a chador. She said she was outside walking and her chador blew in the wind showing her pants and shoes. She got yelled at by a man telling her she was naked and to never do that again. :rolleyes:

I doubt that it is even that way in practice, Jharek. Do you think that any Christian or Jewish man would be free to marry a Muslim woman who had been found guilty of adultery? I would find such a ruling on the part of the Islamic courts who decide such things to be highly curious indeed! Though it certainly seems theoretically possible, doesn’t it? We (Christians, at least) would be living out our faith by forgiving such a woman and not looking to her past sins, while the verse seems to say that it would not be fitting for a Muslim to do the same. How sad for the sinners of Islam (which is to say, all of Islam). May God forgive them all what they cannot forgive each other.
