I really really love horror novels and was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations:)

Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” and Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” are two classics that are amazing reads. Also “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” is great and it’s actually a lot shorter.

I can second “Dracula” and “Frankenstein.” I’m reading “The Stand” right now and it’s good. I’ve not read much in the genre though.

I thoroughly enjoy the Preston and Child series with FBI Agent Pendergast starting with Relic and then Reliquary. There are several others in this series and it is recommended that these two be read in order. Wouldn’t call them out and out horror novels although they can get pretty scary.

I love these classics but I think that you, Mr. or Ms. OP are probably talking more the freak you out so much you can’t sleep kind of horror novels. I am actually interested in hearing some recommendations on it other than the classics.

God bless!

Actually I really hated “Dracula”. I thought the vampire was actually really lame. Sorry

If you like Stephen King, check out John Saul and Bentley Little- they’re not as well-known, but I love their stuff.

I second these! 👍 I would also recommend The Cabinet of Curiosities from the same Pendergast series.

heavymetallover - What do you mean by horror novels? Are you talking werewolves, Count Dracula? Ghosts? Haunted houses? Gory and disgusting?

I recall my Auntie talking about a gory and disgusting horror novel she read in the 80’s called, “Off Season” by: Jack Ketchum

From the reviews and comments I’ve read online Chuck Palahniuk novel called, “Haunted” isn’t for those with a weak stomach

If you’re wondering have I read any of the above books? No…Not yet anyways.

I’m not really picky. It just has to be scary.

I’m not really picky just so long as it’s scary!

Palahniuk’s books are some of my favorites but aren’t scary. Haunted has some stuff that is a bit disturbing though.

Agreed - very good series.

The best horror books I’ve read in a while was the 3 book series “The Strain” by by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Well developed charactors and plot that makes you lay awake on night thinking about it.

At New York’s JFK Airport, an arriving Boeing 777 taxiing along a runway suddenly stops dead. All the shades have been drawn, all communication channels have mysteriously gone quiet. Dr. Eph Goodweather, head of a CDC rapid-response team investigating biological threats, boards the darkened plane—–and what he finds makes his blood run cold.
A terrifying contagion has come to the unsuspecting city, an unstoppable plague that will spread like all-consuming wildfire—–lethal, merciless, hungry . . . vampiric. And in a pawnshop in Spanish Harlem, an aged Holocaust survivor knows that the war he has been dreading his entire life is finally here.
In one week, Manhattan will be gone. In one month, the country. In two months . . . the world.

A lot of Dean Koontz’ books are what Id consider horror. His villains are really creepy

Look into H. P. Lovecraft. The style of writing is not what we’re used to today, but some of his stories are true horror classics: “At the Mountains of Madness,” “The Dunwich Horror,” many others. Anything involving Cthulhu.
