Hosea 6:2

In The Book of Hosea, Chapter 6 Verse 2 states:

 He will revive us after two days;      
  on the third day he will raise us up,      
  to live in his presence.      

Is "on the third day he will raise us up" referring to the Resurrection of Christ?

Third. In a short time the Lord will easily set us free. But the prophet refers more directly to the resurrection of the faithful, and of Christ. Eph. ii. 5. and 1 Cor. xv. 4. C. — S. Paul mentions the third day according to the Scriptures, which nowhere else so clearly specify it. W. See S. Jer. S. Cyp. Sanct. 9. — Know. Hitherto we have been reproached with voluntary ignorance in adoring idols. C. iv. 6. We will amend. — His, Christ’s. — Rain. It falls only in autumn and in spring. Deut. xi. 14. C.

It appears to be speaking of Christ’s resurrection…if only taken out of context.

Read verses 1 and 2 together:

1*“Come, let us return to the Lord,a
For it is he who has torn, but he will heal us;
he has struck down, but he will bind our wounds.
2He will revive us after two days;
on the third day he will raise us up,b
to live in his presence.

What this shows is it is not a discussion about Christ, but about the people.

Verse 2 is taking about recovery of wounded people (raised up from the sick bed).

So actually it’s a passage about the mercy of God, and not the resurrection of Christ, or the resurrection of the dead at the final judgement.

Speaking of Hosea, todays reading

Thus says the LORD:
When Israel was a child I loved him,
out of Egypt I called my son.
The more I called them,
the farther they went from me,
Sacrificing to the Baals
and burning incense to idols.
Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
who took them in my arms;
I drew them with human cords,
with bands of love;
I fostered them like one
who raises an infant to his cheeks;
Yet, though I stooped to feed my child,
they did not know that I was their healer.

How often do we not recognize it is the Lord who calls us, teaches us, draws us with bands of love, fosters us, raises us, feeds and heals us?
