God’s blessings to all. I am trying to find out what is the proper way for a priest to bless an apartment. My reason for asking this is that for the past couple of weeks I have been experiencing what I believe to be spiritual attacks directed towards myself. I went to confession and explained to the priest my situation. I even said that I would be willing to go for psychiatric help since I was so desperate to find out why all these things were happening to me. All this priest could do was tell me “I am sorry but I don’t have the resources to help you.” He didn’t even bother to pray over me or bless me.

After this I contacted a priest who had blessed my apartment a few years back and explained to him what was going on. I always wondered if the manner in which he had previously blessed my apartment was correct. He only blessed the kitchen and the bedrooms but not the rest of the apartment and it always left me wondering if it was done right.

He also said that God doesn’t test people and that I am just perpetuating a vicious cycle in my mind by wanting something evil to blame for what is happening to me (I am paraphrasing his words). And just like the previous priest, he didn’t even bother to pray over me or bless me. Even if what is happening to me ends up being psychological (something that I had said was a possiblity to both priests), just the fact that both of them offered me no consolation and didn’t even bother to pray over me just lowered my spirits so much. 😦

I don’t have a vast knowledge of Catholic theology and so I apologize if I come off as naive or ignorant on these matters. What I am trying to find out is if the manner in which the apartment blessing was done is correct? and whether what the second priest said is true, that once a home has been blessed that neither the home or its inhabitants can be attacked by evil?

Lastly, if anyone knows of an orthodox Catholic priest in my area willing to speak to me concerning the spiritual attacks I am experiencing I would greatly appreciate it as it is putting a great emotional strain not only on myself but on my family as well.

Thank you and God bless.

I’m by no means an expert, but I believe that a priest can’t deny to bless something, as long as it’s nothing spiritually nasty (say some sort of satanic or pagan something). Ask them directly for a blessing. If not, call your bishop’s office and ask that they send someone. If you’re just looking for advice, the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter is as orthodox as it gets. Take a look; they have some contact info on their page:

Disappointing to hear that.
The heirarchy of the Church recognizes an increased need for exorcists. Now the first Priest may have been refering to the phenomenon you are experiencing as internal emotions of intensity that operate from deep unconscious areas externalizing kinetic energy causing the odd things to happen. So blessing the kitchen and bedrooms can have significance but it seems He may not have been in the best of dispositions for discerning it seems from what he said about you. Your average Priest really isn’t in to confronting evil spirits. Some may even lack the spiritual experience to perform with the appropriate zeal. Most diocese have a couple of Priests who are specialists.

Without knowing more I would say this doesn’t sound like a too serious matter. Get another appointment for counsel and perhaps let them know that you don’t wish to put a Priest in a position to do something that isn’t something he’s especially good at and if they know a Priest who is.

I want to make it clear that the priests never denied wanting to give me a blessing. I would never want to slander anyone, especially a priest. It was just that both priests offered me no words of consolation or even bothered to bless or pray over me. That one of the priests coldly told me that I am just perpetuating a vicious cycle in my head over what is happening to me without even being a professional psychiatrist, counselor…etc was not the right way to handle my situation.

Thank you for giving me the link to FSSP. There is a FSSP parish close to where I live that I am going to contact right away.

God bless you.

I don’t know about kinetic energy causing odd things to happen, but what is happening to me which I won’t go into detail about so as to not glorify this evil doesn’t involve objects or things moving about. It is being done in a way to torment me relentlessly so as to drive me away from my faith. I am being oppressed spiritually and will say no more about it.

The matter is pretty serious to me that I am even willing to go to a psychiatrist in order to have proof that what is happening to me is not all in my mind. I am already in the process of contacting another priest so we shall see what happens.

Thank you for your post and God bless.

When we had our house blessed, the priest did bless the kitchen, living , room, dining room, etc, but he didn’t bless each bath and bedroom. He blessed one and said that the blessing would apply to the other, It seems to have worked because we have been very blessed in this house and nothing strange has ever happened.

I have also been very, very disappointed when a minister (not a Catholic priest) did not offer to pray for me and I had hurt myself in his church! In my personal experience, a priest has never refused to bless me or pray for me when I requested and if I was speaking to him for counseling, he always just did it at the end of the conversation without me asking.

Try calling the priest who blessed your apartment before if you are still in touch (and he’s still local) and ask him to bless it again. Also ask your parish priest for a recommendation for counseling. If this is something mental and not an event outside you, you will want a good Catholic counselor or spiritual director perhaps.

I will be praying for you.

The Chaplet of St. Michael

O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the Father, etc.

[Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys after each of the following nine salutations in honor of the nine Choirs of Angels]
  1. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Seraphim may the Lord make us worthy to burn with the fire of perfect charity.
    Amen.
  2. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Cherubim may the Lord grant us the grace to leave the ways of sin and run in the paths of Christian perfection.
    Amen.
  3. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Thrones may the Lord infuse into our hearts a true and sincere spirit of humility.
    Amen.
  4. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Dominations may the Lord give us grace to govern our senses and overcome any unruly passions.
    Amen.
  5. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Virtues may the Lord preserve us from evil and falling into temptation. Amen.
  6. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Powers may the Lord protect our souls against the snares and temptations of the devil.
    Amen.
  7. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Principalities may God fill our souls with a true spirit of obedience. Amen.
  8. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Archangels may the Lord give us perseverance in faith and in all good works in order that we may attain the glory of Heaven.
    Amen.
  9. By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Angels may the Lord grant us to be protected by them in this mortal life and conducted in the life to come to Heaven.
    Amen.
Say one Our Father in honor of each of the following leading Angels: St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael and our Guardian Angel.

Concluding prayers:

O glorious prince St. Michael, chief and commander of the heavenly hosts, guardian of souls, vanquisher of rebel spirits, servant in the house of the Divine King and our admirable conductor, you who shine with excellence and superhuman virtue deliver us from all evil, who turn to you with confidence and enable us by your gracious protection to serve God more and more faithfully every day.

Pray for us, O glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ, that we may be made worthy of His promises.

Almighty and Everlasting God, Who, by a prodigy of goodness and a merciful desire for the salvation of all men, has appointed the most glorious Archangel St. Michael Prince of Your Church, make us worthy, we ask You, to be delivered from all our enemies, that none of them may harass us at the hour of death, but that we may be conducted by him into Your Presence. This we ask through the merits of
Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Amen.

What are the nature of the attacks? Recently I heard of another person hearing strange noises in her apartment and she believes them to be spiritual attacks. That may be true, but it is best to rule out earthly explanations first. I do no deny the existence of the devil or of his demons.

There are some good sermons on these subjects in the links below.

I **highly **recommend getting a pack full of St. Benedict’s medals, blessed properly with the full prayers naturally, and placing them about the house.

Also Eucharistic Adoration is the cure for all ills. 🙂

A house blessing does not negate all spiritual warfare in a house, it only gives an additional help and protection.

Thank you for your prayers. 🙂

As to the priest that came to my house, he did bless my house again but he looked annoyed (my perception…God forgive me if I am wrong) when he said “I will bless the house that I have already blessed.” and soon after left. As you were hurt when your priest didn’t offer to pray for you so was I with mine but I hold no grudge against him (God bless him).

I am already speaking with a Catholic licensed LPC therapist and she is wonderful as she combines counseling with the Catholic faith. She has given me recommendations for psychiatrists but also encourages me to seek out another priest who will listen to me. I can never deny that evil exists BUT I also cannot deny that the mind is capable of making one believe something is happening when it is not. That is why I am open to the possibility of it being either spiritual or mental in origin.

I made an appointment with a psychiatrist and God willing the truth of all this will come to light. In the meantime I left a message with the priests at my nearest FSSP parish as things are getting worse for me.

Again, thank you for your prayers, you are in my prayers as well.

God bless.

Thank you Jason for posting this magnificent Chaplet of St. Michael. I am going to print it out. God bless you. 🙂

Sorry but I do not wish to get into what exactly is happening so as not to glorify the acts being done against me. Especially not in a public forum. The times that I have spoken of this to those closest to me seems to cause whatever is doing this to react against me.

God bless.

When I get a response from the FSSP priests I contacted, I will ask them to bless the medals for me. And I have been going to Adoration ever since this started happening to me. I do sense peace when I am in Adoration and when I pray at home. It seems to either calm things down completely or make things less severe.

The situation in the beginning caused great fear in me but now my faith is starting to get strengthened but as my faith increases and I seek spiritual help it seems the situation gets worse. I know that Christ is always with me and that is a great consolation but its taking on toll on me more physically.

God bless.

ok, first of all…
instead of asking a priest to bless the house. just tell them that YOU are feeling spiritually dry/attacked and YOU wish to be blessed.
much better, yes?

secondly, go to sistersofcarmel.com/scapulars.php# and buy a scapular. have it blessed, and WEAR IT. their scapulars are comfy. also carry your rosary at all times. need a rosary? get a free one here www.rosaryarmy.com

for your home? hang up a wall rosary and put up religious art to remind you of Gods blessings. also say a chaplet to St Michael.

get some holy water and go around and bless the house yourself any time you feel troubled. walk around and anoint windows and doors and recite the psalms
“the Lord is my Shepard”

i am a convert. while i was raised in the Episcopal church, i spent most of my life as a pagan. no, i am serious, i mean a pagan and a wiccan. when i ran a new age store we got people coming in all the time asking us for help with this…
it all comes down to the fact that while you can defend a place… the real target of the attacks is YOU…
so defend YOU

good luck, and spend some more time in Eucharistic adoration…

Yes, Eucharistic Adoration is the cure for all ills… If you can make time for it each day this will help tremendously. 🙂

The angels love the Chaplet of St. Michael. 🙂 Do not forget the St. Michael prayer as well.

This is a good book on St. Michael. It has a wonderful novena in it.

Remember to keep making progress separating yourself from sin and occasions of sin, and living a more sacred and less worldly life. 🙂

fabricdragon I was able to meet with a FSSP priest today (thank God) and he not only blessed me, but gave me a blessed Saint Benedict medal along with holy water blessed according to the Old Rite. He said that holy water blessed in this way contains “salt of exorcism”, is blessed with exorcism prayers and has a 5-fold blessing. This type of holy water is very different from the holy water found in most church’s which is not blessed using the exorcism prayers.

It is wonderful that our present Pope, Benedict the 16th allows priests to use the old rite blessings and the old rite liturgical books. Thank you for the links and you are right I am the target not the house. This is what the priest said. I am eternally grateful to the poster Jason for having given me the link to this priestly fraternity.

Shin If only I could go every day to Eucharistic adoration. The only church that does this is in another state and the commute by train right now daily I can’t afford right now but there is one church locally that has it once a week and I will be going there from now on every week. The chaplet of St. Michael is indeed lovely and the priest I went to see today said to say it every time I felt the need to.

And before I forget, one important thing the priest said is to stick with the prayer to Saint Michael and not to use any other prayers of rebuking the spirits since you do not know what kind of spirit you are dealing with. I am indeed learning now the hard way that I need to clean my act up and live a more holy life.

jeanannemarie Thank for the links and I can easily copy/paste the link so no worries. 🙂

God bless all of you for your considerate and spirit-filled posts. I feel so much better now spiritually and am more at peace and believe that the church where I met with the FSSP priest will become my new home. ALL PRAISES TO THE LORD!!! May you all be blessed by the Lord abundantly.

Don’t think that online Eucharistic adoration is not efficacious. It is of great value. Always. 🙂 If you can simply do this every day it will be of great help.

It’s good that the holy water is blessed with the older prayers, properly. 🙂 Do not neglect to use it, be liberal with it.

i am glad to to hear that things are going better!

i always say stick with the basics: Eucharistic Adoration, regular Mass and Communion, the Rosary, Holy water, prayer, psalms, and appeals to Michael and the Saints.

remember that often even the saints were subject to attack, and to long “dark nights of the soul” when they felt oppressed and abandoned. Trust in God, “Pray, hope, and dont worry” (St Pio of Petrelcina, a great one to appeal to!)

i will also say there are a few “mundane” things that usually help.
  1. clean the house. for reasons that are probably purely psychological, a clean neat house… where the windows shine and the floors are clear always seems to help. its probably “chicken soup” but 🤷
  2. make sure you drink enough water. a lot of people go through life slightly dehydrated. that CANNOT help your mood.
  3. also unless you are deliberately fasting (which is different) make sure you eat GOOD food. the quote form “the Screwtape Letters” is apt… “how much of our ammunition comes from what the man ate and drank the night before…”
have a blessed day.
