Household Saint?

Hello my friends,
This thought has only come to me in the past few minutes, seemingly from nowhere, but has the Church ever held the thought of a household saint, by this I mean that a family’s own personal devotion to a particular. I knowingly acknowledge the conspicuous link to the idea of ‘household gods’ in Roman paganism and I realise that it does retain a very polytheistic character. If you have any information to satisfy this curiosity, it would be very much appreciated.

Obviously people related to saints tend to be devoted to them, and the same for families that owe saints for big favors. Aristocratic families often sponsored chapels or holy day celebrations or paintings of favorite saints.

So yeah, you can look up the family patron saints of some Catholic nobility.

But the same thing is true of normal families. If you see a lot of repeat baptismal names, that can be a clue.

Absolutely, families take on a special devotion for any number of reasons.
In our home growing up, it was St. Pio, St. Anthony, and St. Jude.
Mama had a strong devotion to all of them, and my dad was a Virgin Mary kind of guy.
We had a home altar/shrine and statues of all of them. Mama stopped everything daily at 3 PM to make a holy hour on her knees with a lit candle and she had a little binder of prayers she kept, and favorite Scripture passages that she would pray daily.
I treasure that little book.

Sts. Martha & Mary are a good “household” saint as well. A balance of “spirituality and good work”.

You know, many people don’t lump them in with the Saints.
They feel they are separate and above somehow.
I know my folks did. Devotion to them was de rigeur.
