I am semi-inspired when I read the “how to mop the floor” thread! I am a housewife in general. I do work every other weekend…but that’s it. So this is my job. I cook beautifully…I am a good mommy…my children get a lot of time. I think about how to make my husband happy, and try to put his needs first…or at least up there high on the priority list.

So…problem? I really hate housework. It bores me. It’s the same thing everyday. Hey…I washed those dishes yesterday…I made that bed yesterday. 😉 It doesn’t help matters that I am a recovering Slob…from way back…been that way all my life.

How do you find inspiration? I have help…but that makes me feel guilty…it is my fifteen yr. old daughter. She is a clean freak, and comes in and the kid can get-er-done let me tell you! I don’t want her to have to…I wanna be better…I wanna improve!

What inspires YOU!!
Love and God Bless

The Lord! “Whatever your work…do it as though you were doing it for the Lord”…😉 BTW, I hate housework too!😃

Try Flylady. She continually inspires me to work smarter and more joyfully. She’s a Christian and helps homemakers see that acquiring lots of things is often detrimental to one’s enjoyment of life. Flylady (whose real name is Marla Cilley) recommends “babysteps” in order to gain control of the overwhelming task of keeping a house and family moving forward, while maintaining ones own sanity in the process. Flylady has been a godsend for me. If you can, read her hilarious book, “Sink Reflections.” But everything she has in the book can be found on her fabulous website. She asks if you are living in C.H.A.O.S. (Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome!) because of the condition of your home. Marla understands because she’s been there. Flylady isn’t for everyone, but her approach to home management has lots of good ideas.

OK, do you really shine your sink every day and wear shoes all day in your house? I signed up for flylady last week but haven’t “started” yet. I hate wearing shoes! :o

I was wondering about that too! Will it work if I cheat and do not wear shoes? I understand the concept of getting dressed for motivation and all…but I like being barefooted.

What do you listen to while you clean? I do better listening to music. I was listening to E.W.T.N…and I noticed that I stop cleaning to hear what is being said.

Yeah, offering up helps alot. If you have a kid that has a test or something important coming up you can offer up, lets say doing the dishes, for them. You can offer up the mopping to thank God for your family, etc. You can offer up cleaning the bathroom for some very, very special intention 😛 or for something important like your marriage or family.

When done for God, ** Work = Prayer ** 🙂
Take advantage of it.
You will have a better prayer life and a cleaner house!!! 👍

And music helps me keep going, find some music you like and start cleaning!!!

I heard one lady tell of the 30 second rule… if you can put something away, or pick up something, or put it back, or straighten up something or put clean clothes in the drawers… whatever… and it will take only 30 seconds, then do right then. I have a really bad habit of not putting things away… including clean, folded laundry. But, when I remember the 30 second thing… i put stuff away and have less clutter. This lady is also a clean freak. She has a separate trash can in each bathroom that is always empty, and clean for guests, and a can under the sink where the family puts their used tissues, etc… funny. She spoke at a Mops meeting. She said that we should all clean our houses thoroughly once a week, then spend one hour per day cleaning. Most of the new moms laughed out loud at that one!
Oh well. One of my friends likes to say “If you want to see me, come over anytime… if you want to see my house, please make an appointment!”

Who wants to wear shoes all day!? Yuck! Plus you’re just tracking dirt on your carpets. Do slippers (of the bunny variety) have the same effect?😃

Laundry is my greatest downfall. My husband does way better. He takes hangars into the laundry room and hangs clothes up immediately as he pulls them out of the dryer…then takes them straight to the closets…smart man

I on the other hand take them out and dump them on the couch where they wrinkle and sit for a while 🙂

Then they sit folded for a while…then I get huge piles that need to be put away…

Just starting this thread made me remember what I should be doing…I’m going to put a bunch of hangars in the laundry room and retrain myself…who said men don’t know anything about housework?

I love doing laundry. I even like ironing. When I am done and put it away, it is such a sense of satisfaction. I like cooking and cook a lot because we prefer homecooked to restaurants. I even like washing the pots and pans and cleaning the kitchen. But I HATE dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning bathrooms. I lost my cleaning lady recently and now I am the cleaning lady.:crying: Thinking about how much more disposable income I will have, doesn’t make it any better. Oh well.

Well…I’ll tell you what La chiara…if we lived closer I’d come over and vacume and dust for you (I sorta like these things) If you would help me with the laundry (I would NOT make you fold underwear) 😃

La Chiara, why don’t you hire a teenage girl to do just those chores you hate? When I was in high school (20 years ago) I used to mop and vacuum every room in my neighbor’s house for $5. It was a total bargain for her because she hated doing it, and I thought it was easy money. It only took me less than 30 minutes to get it all done.

Funny you say that. Five minutes before I wrote that post, I was picking up the huge pile of dirty laundry that my own teenage girl managed to dump on the closet floor rather in the laundry basket which was 5 feet away!:banghead:

I’m the opposite - I like dusting, vacuuming, and general cleaning, and I LOVE organizing. I even like, or at least don’t hate, laundry. I hate bathrooms, esp. the shower. I hate emptying the dishwasher, sweeping and mopping the floor…yuck. But when you’re whole house is clean and organized, oh, such a sense of satisfaction!!

Phew, Lillith you pretty much feel like I do about housework, only difference I work as well.

I detest ironing and for myself tend to buy clothes that are wash and wear. This year DS has uniforms and so I have started to put right onto a hangar after taking out from dryer (really helps). Luckily DH irons his own clothes.

What inspires me to clean -is having company - then I really have to get moving and clean up (oh well bedrooms still do not get done as I tend to just close the doors)

My main problem is clutter and not putting away stuff - yikes -some of DS’s art work from summer camp are still piled on the kitchen counter and important paperwork sitting on my dresser.
It does not help that my DH and DS are packrats as well and do not like throwing stuff out. DS has a fit if he finds some of his work in the grey box (recycling). Also I have not had the heart to give away any of his toys or clothes since he was a baby, hoping that we would have another one and use it.

I’m trying to remember this thing Mom had on our wall…

Some houses try to hide the fact that children shelter there.
Ours boasts of it quite openly; the signs are everywhere.
Crumbs are on the floor, little smudges on the walls,
Some I can’t remember… toys strewn in the hall.
But I sat down with the children
And we played and laughed and read
And if the doorbell doesn’t shine
Their eyes will shine instead.
For when at times I’m forced to choose
The one job or the other
I’d like to be a housewife, but first I’ll be a mother.

Ironing, I hate that too. Funny, because it was my grandma’s favorite task. She even ironed sheets and towels. I do the take it out of the wash and fold or hang it up right away trick.

My husband likes his business shirts starched and pressed. Those go to the cleaners for that.

Clutter is my biggest challenge, because evidently I am the only one in the family who does not like to accumulate. My biggest dream is to get rid of almost everything we own. I love reading the Little House books and how they owned almost nothing, but valued what they did have. It seems like the opposite around here. We have so much but value very little of it.

I hate organizing, but love cleaning. My house is really clean under all the clutter. 😃
I try to manage by remembering the Saints. The little way of Therese, St Monica, St. Martha, St. Zita, and Mary. (I am really praying for a miracle) I try to be thankful for what I have and I almost have myself convinced cleaning is just a workout.
I take a box room to room and fill it with the stuff that doesn’t belong there. When I’m done, I put everything away at once, then go on to the next room. That’s the only thing that works for me.
Fortunately, my husband isn’t too picky about extreme clean.

Okay, I am going to take this post as a sign from God.

I have been putting off my housecleaning and decided to read the forums instead. Housework…blah! is exactly what I have been thinking about today.

Some days it is just really tough, today is one of those days. So, goodbye for now-I have cleaning to do. 😉
