How and how many kinds of relationship are there to the Holy Spirit?

I think developing a loving, prayerful relationship with the Holy Spirit is one of the most important things you can do. The reasons and the ways to develop this relationship would take more than I could fit in a brief answer here, so I will make two suggestions for reading that will help much more than I could.

I like your answer because it doesn’t single out one part of the Trinity. They are one. Tim

Having a relationship with the Holy Spirit enriches your life, guiding you to holiness in these times of moral depravity.

Work on inviting the Holy Spirit into your soul and developing a deep relationship with Him. Learn to listen to His promptings and become a saint. The deeper your relationship, the more you understand God.

1831 **The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit **are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. They belong in their fullness to Christ, Son of David.109 They complete and perfect the virtues of those who receive them. They make the faithful docile in readily obeying divine inspirations.

1832 The fruits of the Spirit are perfections that theHoly Spirit forms in us as the first fruits of eternal glory. The tradition of the Church lists twelve of them: “charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity.”

You’re welcome. I’ve recently pray more the novena to the Holy Spirit for faith, hope, love, and other virtues.

They can’t have Jesus as a “complete” lover without the Holy Spirit.

So I guess it would be like having a car but trying to move without the gas, this makes sense, or me saying I love Jesus but don’t even know the Holy Spirit as all. So I could read all that i want about but still not know the person, but… if I let go and ask the Holy Spirit in then I would probably have the first thoughts and actions in building a relationship with the Holy Spirit… NO???

yes and no. The Holy Spirit works many different ways with all of us.

I have always thought the Holy Spirit is the powerful manifestation of the love between Father and Son. So powerful is that love it created an equal. We have access to Him by the Son’s sending as a paraclete, as the Son is the paraclete to the Father for us. Does this sound about right? So to have a relationship with one is to have a relationship with all 3 in 1 Lord. Am I “off” in this thinking? Thanks, Tim

In the future, I’ll get married to my g/f thus this makes me related to her relatives, but I doubt I would know much about them unless I am opening up to get to know them and vice versa.

It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that souls may die in Christ and rise in Him at Baptism. Then our Divine life in God begins at Baptism by the power of the Holy Spirit.

It is impossible to live the Catholic faith or even profess it if the Holy Spirit is not conferred upon the soul at Baptism. All those who are Baptised are in relationship with the Holy Spirit. You are a Tabernacle.

After Jesus rose from the dead the first work He did was to open the Sacred Scriptures to the disciples on the road to Emmaeus. This is very important and shows us the great work of the Holy Spirit because Jesus and the Holy Spirit and the Father are one and therefore Jesus opened the Scriptures to them and imparted understanding. They said to Jesus ‘Stay with us’ and He did for a little while, but then He left them. However the next great work Jesus did was to send the Holy Spirit so that He, Jesus, may stay with them always. Filled then with the Holy Spirit at Pentecost they were able to carry out Jesus’ charge to them ‘Go then to the ends of the earth preaching forgiveness and repentance’ after which He ascended into Heaven.

At confirmation we receive the Holy Spirit as a disciple and recreated creature by the rite of our Baptism, at Confirmation we receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit to fulfill our discipleship and be recreated time and time again by way of conversion by the power of the Holy Spirit who illuminates men’s hearts and souls to the Truth.

So whether we realise it or not we are dwelling in a deep relationship with the Holy Spirit Who inspires all good in men, lifts the soul in prayer, imparts all gifts for the building up of the Kingdom and forms the conscience.

God is One, but manifests Himself three ways to men so that men may know and love Him as He is Spirit, Son and Father. The Spirit makes known the Son and the Son makes known the Father. The Spirit is Love, the Son is Love and the Father is Love. The Spirit indwells men so that they may become as the Son and as The Father and Love as He Loves. Therefore men becoming as God intended, His image and likeness in Christ Jesus.

God is Love and all of the Divine Nature is Love, so therefore Mercy is Love, Kindness is Love, Justice is Love, Righteousness is Love, Goodness is Love etc.

Therefore the relationship with the Holy Spirit is developing and forming as there is no end to Love and no end to which men’s hearts may expand in Love by God’s grace and will.

Years ago I was having a problem with my faith. When I talked to a priest about it, he suggested that I pray to the Holy Spirit.

I was a little taken aback by this - I asked him how??? - he told me I should just “introduce myself”, and continue from there.

Since then I have found a tremendous relationship with the Holy Spirit. I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

Of course, we can not pray to one person of the Trinity without the involvement of the other two. Acknowledging the Holy Spirit in prayer, and giving permission to work in your life opens things up in a way that you cannot imagine. In the same way that praying to the Father is different from praying to Jesus, praying to the Holy Spirit is unique.

I strongly encourage you to try it, if you haven’t already.

It seems to me that there is no way that any person could ever say that they did any act of love or said a word that was governed by God that was not also governed by the Holy Spirit.
Hece the reason why Jesus tells us that any person who thinks that they can love in the fullest sence without the Holy Spirit is a lier. For since only God is LOVE then it must stand that only acts of ***love in the truest sence ***could come from the blessing of the Holy Spirit.

There are those abilities of loving where the natural gift God gives in birth can come from one person to another but that is different to the actions and words led by the Holy Spirit that lead away from self thought. The spiritual love from God puts self last and deeper still denounces self as unable to love at all it is wholly the Gift of the Holy Spirit who draws people to love.

Seems to me Jesus tells us that without a relationship with the Holy Spirit all we speak about is likened to nonsence, or loose. This would give creadence to our being unable to love one another without the Holy Spirit governing our speach!!!
I don’t mean He takes over and that we become computers but that He guides us and at times speakes through us.
