Does the Catholic Church have rules and regulations? When I was a Catholic, I remember being taught about the six commandments of the church. To me this goes against what Paul said in Colossians 2:21, 22, 23?

Golfjack,

What Church are you affliated with? Does it have “rules and regulations”? Are there things that one of your Churches members could be removed for? What is the point of bringing up questions about Catholicism, if you already know what the Church teaches?

How can you prove to anyone that the Holy Spirit is directing you in particular to the truth? . After all, Charles Manson and Jim Jones claimed the same thing, didn’t they and we all know how that turned out. This is burlesquing it a bit, but honestly, you have no credentials at all, do you? Why should we put any credence in what you are saying if the best you can offer is the above quote. After all, you are asking us to risk our souls by following your lead, aren’t you?

In contrast, lets review the Catholic church’s credentials. It was founded by Jesus , who put St. Peter in charge when he returned to heaven. For 2000 years, it has brought people to the truth with reason and power to the point where there are over 1B Catholics worldwide. Its doctrines are well documented back to the apostles. There are many miracles to demonstrate the truth, even in this century, with the dancing of the Sun at Fatima and Padre Pio’s stigmata. Its priests and religious are willing to give up their earthly lives to bring the truth to the people. I’m sure others on this board could easily enhance this list
The above quote my friend, ( that I follow the word of God and I am directed by the Holy Spirit), is all I can offer you. If you can find a better more suitable way to live then you let me know. I serve the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, that is the best it gets. He is my Savior, my Lord and my friend. PTL Ralph

What a coincidence! I follow the word of God, His Church and I am directed by the Holy Spirit. I too serve the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords! Reckon why we differ on scriptures? 😛

I think you are talking about the precepts of the church: which are described this way in the Catechism:
II. THE PRECEPTS OF THE CHURCH
2041 The precepts of the Church are set in the context of a moral life bound to and nourished by liturgical life. The obligatory character of these positive laws decreed by the pastoral authorities is meant to guarantee to the faithful the very necessary minimum in the spirit of prayer and moral effort, in the growth in love of God and neighbor:
2042 The first precept (“You shall attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation and rest from servile labor”) requires the faithful to sanctify the day commemorating the Resurrection of the Lord as well as the principal liturgical feasts honoring the mysteries of the Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the saints; in the first place, by participating in the Eucharistic celebration, in which the Christian community is gathered, and by resting from those works and activities which could impede such a sanctification of these days.
The second precept (“You shall confess your sins at least once a year”) ensures preparation for the Eucharist by the reception of the sacrament of reconciliation, which continues Baptism’s work of conversion and forgiveness.
The third precept (“You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least during the Easter season”) guarantees as a minimum the reception of the Lord’s Body and Blood in connection with the Paschal feasts, the origin and center of the Christian liturgy.
2043 The fourth precept (“You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church”) ensures the times of ascesis and penance which prepare us for the liturgical feasts and help us acquire mastery over our instincts and freedom of heart.
The fifth precept (“You shall help to provide for the needs of the Church”) means that the faithful are obliged to assist with the material needs of the Church, each according to his own ability
How does this violate what was said in Colossians 2:16-23
Let no one, then, pass judgment on you in matters of food and drink or with regard to a festival or new moon or sabbath. These are shadows of things to come; the reality belongs to Christ. Let no one disqualify you, delighting in self-abasement and worship of angels, taking his stand on visions, inflated without reason by his fleshly mind, and not holding closely to the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and bonds, achieves the growth that comes from God. If you died with Christ to the elemental powers of the world, why do you submit to regulations as if you were still living in the world? “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!” These are all things destined to perish with use; they accord with human precepts and teachings. While they have a semblance of wisdom in rigor of devotion and self-abasement (and) severity to the body, they are of no value against gratification of the flesh.

What a coincidence! I follow the word of God, His Church and I am directed by the Holy Spirit. I too serve the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords! Reckon why we differ on scriptures? 😛
We differ not on scripture, but by the interpretation that you recieve from the Roman catholic church with is jammed with tradition based on their own ideas. Ralph

2Th 2:15 (2:14) Therefore, brethren, stand fast: and hold the traditions, which you have learned, whether by word or by our epistle.

Your interpretation that you receive privately is jammed with non-scriptural, man-made tradition based on yours, or someone’s, ideas…like sola scriptura and private interpretation of scriptures, while rejecting other traditions clearly spoken about in scriptures. 🤷

PS, I belong to a non-denominational church, which has no rules and regulations like yours. Most of us are also Spirit-filled and believe in the gifts of the Spirit. To me, rules, and regulations block the flow of the Holy Spirit. This has happened throughout church history. Just look at your church, the Episcopal church, Presbyterian church, and various reformed church. The Church should be a Bible based church. The church really started when Jesus breathed a new recreated spirit into the apostles. 👍
Peace, Golfjack

Oh, ok. Who is the leader of your Church? That is, who speaks, or preaches, and who oversees the interpretations that your Church operates by? What do you do if a member of the congregation disagrees with an interpretation of the Church?

Was it your decision, authority, that rules and regulations block the Holy Spirit? Isn’t that a rule?

So, you believe your Church is like that the early Church fathers wrote about? If your Church was the original Church, where are the writings of those practicing Christians that passed your Church down through the ages?

See you err, the Catholic Church is a Bible based Church, but you can’t see it if you privately interpret scriptures to fit your theology. 😛

First, the Catholic Church does not teach that Paul was made an Apostle through the laying on of hands by Ananias. Paul was made an Apostle by Jesus. Period.

Second, if you have any doubts about the role of laying on of hands, you should research the following verses:

Bishops may lay their hands on lots of folks for lots of reasons other than ordination, and apostolic succession is not at issue then.
I did not say I deny the laying of hands. You are trying to imply I dont believe in the laying of hands by taking what I said about Paul and apply it some where else. forums.catholic-questions.org/showpost.php?p=5273654&postcount=638

So Im not in denial about that gift as you presume to imply.
By the way lets take a look at one of your reference verses and I’ll make my point about Baptism and hands.

Acts 8:18
When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money

Acts 8:16
because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. 17Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
Look at the verse just before your quote.
Then why do you teach that the Holy Spirit is received at baptism it clearly was not here.

I’ll provide an answer here for you. Could it be that there are 2 baptisms? Yes that is why there are so many examples of laying of hands to transmit the HS. All that were baptized “John the baptist” and others before the HS came. Many did not even know of the gift of the HS. The ones that had not been baptized and heard the word were immediately taken and baptized for repentance and then they received the HS. Heres the formula from Jesus.

John 14:15 Conditions needed to receive the HS
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

So, what is your part?
If you love Me…Believe in Jesus
keep My commandments…Repent …same as Johns baptism

What is His part?
  1. He will ask the Father,
  2. He will give you the Comforter (John 14:16)
The laying of hands or baptism is not mentioned by Jesus but the conditions were already met by many but they had no Idea about Jesus baptism in the HS.

“Paul, having passed through the upper coasts, came to Ephesus. And finding certain disciples, he said unto them, Have ye RECEIVED the holy Ghost since ye believed?' And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any holy Ghost.’ And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized?' And they said, Unto John’s baptism.’ Then said Paul, `John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.’ When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the holy Ghost came on them, and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve.” (Acts 19:1-7)

Paul’s question, “Have ye RECEIVED the holy Ghost since ye believed?”
Not only had these Ephesians believed, but they had also been baptized with water; yet, according to their own testimony, they had “not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Spirit.” What a picture of thousands upon thousands today who, in reality, have not heard about the Holy Spirit! Think of the multitudes today who have believed and been baptized with water; still, they are without the promised Comforter - the Holy Spirit.

John the Baptist’s ministry was intended to prepare Israel to receive Christ Jesus and his baptism. He baptized with water all Jews who repented, thus making them candidates for Jesus’s baptism with the holy Spirit. John’s message was this: “I baptize you with water unto repentance, but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear. He shall baptize you with the holy Ghost and with fire.”** Water baptism was offered to the Jews with the understanding that it was only a preparation for the baptism of the holy Spirit.** Isn’t it quite strange that so many have received the testimony of John concerning water baptism; yet, at the same time have rejected it with regard to the baptism of the holy Ghost! For as John administered the one, he promised that Christ would administer the other.

So, what is your part?
If you love Me…Believe in Jesus
keep My commandments…Repent …same as Johns baptism

What is His part?
  1. He will ask the Father,
  2. He will give you the Comforter (John 14:16)
In the days of the Apostles they did not mess around, the HS was moving and when people heard the word and believed in Jesus they immediately had them repent in the form of being baptized and received the HS. The baptism met the 2 conditions outlined by Jesus believe and keep my commandments. Baptism was a fast way to make an outward statement about committing / repenting to follow Jesus. These people were ripe and ready to be harvested in to the kingdom and the Apostles knew how to get it done quick. Baptism and laying of hands. Can we repent in the eyes of the Lord without baptism of course we can, thats what the thief on the cross did he met the 2 conditions before the HS had come to the disciples. His words spoke of the repentance that had taken place and of course he believed in Jesus.

golfjack,

Does the preacher/pastor of your non-denominational Church have a theological degree? If not, did he/her receive any theological training? Did they study at any seminary? How did they receive their authority to teach/preach?

One last question, I’d be interested in the growth of your “original” Church. How many members worldwide are there? This means, how many that agree on all the doctrines of the Church you are a member of?

PS, My Pastor was trained at Rhema Bible Inst. His authority comes from God and this is stated in the Book of Acts around chapter 12, which talks about being ordained. I have no idea what you mean by world wide members?
Peace, Golfjack

PS, You can go ahead and make fun at my local church, but I am where God wants me to be. I am also obedient to my calling as an Evangelist.

I think it must be another chapter of Acts. Chapter 12 tells about Herod, the king, has James, the brother of John, killed, and has Peter taken to prison. An angel appears to Peter and free him from his chains and escorts him out of the prison.

How many members are there, approximately, in your non-denominational Church (all those that agree with all the doctrines of your Church)? World wide was assuming your “original Church” was in all nations, as the Gospel was to be taught.

I’m not making fun of your Church. You’re here continously telling us how wrong the Catholic Church is, how are we to believe yours is the true Church Christ created if you won’t answer questions about it? Since, it’s non-denominational, would you mind telling us the name of your Church?

You see, I feel the Catholic Church is where God wants me to be and it is my desire to be obedient to Him. How am I to know yours is the true Church Christ built if you won’t talk about it?

My church is called Living Word Family Church, and has about 100 members. We do have tennets of faith. Back at you: How do I know that your church is the true church? Your Church with its teaching just don’t line up with what God has said in His Word. This is the only way I can judge it,by the Word of God.
Peace, Golfjack

According to rhema.org, it appears there’s only a one year program to graduate from, but it states first year program, then I saw a 3rd year program mentioned. How much training did your pastor receive?

Their website doesn’t give alot of information. It doesn’t mention any doctrines, tenets or really anything specific about what they teach.

It doesn’t even give the founder’s qualifications other than he died 3 times in 10 minutes and saw hell each time that led to his conversion and Christ appeared to him 8 times.

It tells us the founder, born in 1917, started a magazine in 1968 and started the training center in 1974. I can’t find anything that indicates their Church is the Apostolic Church. Nowhere does it say it was the original Church.

Their website also doesn’t mention how many members the Church has. I just wondered, because Catholics make up over 50 percent of the world’s Christians. That leaves thousands of denominations and non-denominations to make up the rest.

I have to say that I have never seen Protestantism so poorly represented as it has been on this thread. :sad_yes:

Its not even tempting to engage in dialogue such irrelevant nonsense. :nope:

Why not get back to the topic of salvation or end the thread? :hmmm:

Oh but the Catholic Church’s teachings do line up very well with scriptures. It’s hard to see from private interpretations, outside the Church Christ built, though.

You have the authority to judge Churches? How did you come to receive that authority? Do you believe all other denominations are wrong and your non-denominational Church is the only true and correct Church?

I’d really be interested in reading your Church’s tenets of faith and doctrines.
