How are you making society a better place?

With all of the news and forums etc…

It seems that there is a lot of self righteous arrogant (or ignorant) people and violence in this world.

So, this topic kind of popped into my mind:

How are you touching the lives of others? How do you constantly improve yourself? Are you constantly learning?

Sometimes I feel like we think we are good/decent people but IMO we don’t realise that we can be way better. We should go out of our way to make people feel safe and happy, we should always try to be there for others instead of acting like we are good people, and other people are the problem.

We get too focused on sins, but we should focus on touching lives as well, to be honest. Donating an extra $5 is not a sin, but we should do so if we can, and so on.

We can mind our own business, focus on ourselves and pray for change, or we can pray for change while making a difference.

Such a random topic, I know. But I feel like pride is such a silent killer lol. There is so much positive change we can make every day, so many people we can make happy. I feel like that’s what Pope Francis is trying to encourage.

We should show we are Christians by our love, not words. 🙂
 
How am I making the world a better place, by staying home and out of the world’s way while it’s going through this current crazy phase. I’ll check back in after the world has decided to stop acting like a bunch of nutjobs…
 
Pray is not enough, one must actively go out and DO something, be it volunteer, teach, or just be kind to one another. Action is the key.
 
I am committed to becoming a more patient person and hopefully this will help me let go of anger. Anyway that is how it’s supposed to work.
 
I volunteer a few hours a week, and I promote volunteerism whenever I get the chance.

It doesn’t matter to me what religious or political persuasion a person has. If we can involve ourselves in our community, if we can lightening the load of others, maybe make the world less harsh for others…it’s all good.
 
Yes, volunteering here too. Love is a verb and all that. But I hesitate to make a list of what I do because that seems far too much like boasting in my good works. Prayer is certainly the foundation stone of making a difference for me, it’s the lifeblood of what gives me strength to serve others, rather than doing it in my own strength. If I did it in my own strength I would soon falter.
 
I’m being a better father to my kids. They’ve noticed that I’ve been a lot calmer since I started attending Mass again. Hopefully that’s something but I need to do more.
 
I try to be patient and calm. I try to show others my faith through my actions.

When I visit my stepdaughter and her family, I try to encourage her kids to be nice to one another, not call names, use their manners, etc. I know that my stepdaughter and her husband do this, but I think a little reinforcement from time to time doesn’t hurt.

By bringing the gospel (through word or action) to terminally ill people and their families.
 
I like this question. Sometimes I feel like we are all expecting the ax to fall soon because of the violence. Then I get sickened by the two candidates up for election soon. Be the first time I write in a vote that will be fine before the eyes of God and that is all that matters to me. St Tomas More reminded people that the persecution that was happening far away might one day be at their front door and in time England became a land of flowing blood of the martyrs. Mother Teresa said:

How do I try to make society better? By seeking the holiness of God. By living from one communion to another. By seeking the sacrament of reconciliation and trying to love God first then my neighbor. By forgiving those who hurt me or act indifferent with me, By asking God to heal those I have hurt. And by praying, by seeking the last place and letting others be first. By yearning for eternity and smiling when it might be easy to frown. By praying for children who come from broken families and by loving each child that is looking to be wanted and thought of as a gift instead of a burden. By praying to our lady as queen of creation and asking her to help us.

👍:confused::eek: Great point! The question is not about how each person makes society better. Life is a gift from God. No matter what a person’s ability is we are made in the image and likeness of God. We exist for God and he is only good. He is goodness. Yeah communism looks to see if you are worthy of living for the society. work, work for the sake of society but work, has all types of realities that go beyond just society. Thanks for the wake up call :tiphat:
 
I was very nervous about a job evaluation. and prayed for my supervisor’s peace and happiness. The evaluation went much better than I expected and I now feel much more relaxed in my supervisor’s presence.

I read about a nun who was paralyzed in an accident, and can only move her eyes. She had a rosary hung on the wall, and her sisters discovered she was praying the rosary, following the beads with her glance. That is comforting: I hope she is praying for all of us.

If the last sentence was directed to me, well…

Let’s say you are filthy rich and you have a friend in need of money for chemo.

You have two options: Give her money for the treatment and pray that it goes well and she’ll fight cancer.

Second option is to pray that she finds money for her treatment.

Which one do you think God will want you to do?

My opinion is that if you are in a position to help, you should help. Let God work through you 🙂

And if that wasn’t direcred towards me then sigh I wasted a minute of my life 😊

To be fair, there has always been pain and injustice in the world ever since Adam and Eve screwed up, your home better be comfy 😛

Yeah I said idiots, I keep helping poor people but it seems the most I come across are incapable of functioning in a logical manner for one reason or another 😦

But I keep doing it because I am a bigger idiot :confused:
