I will start with a quote from Peter Kreeft.
“At some point, a culture or an individual gets so bad that if they don’t stop themselves, God does. No one knows where that point is until it’s too late.”

He was talking about university campus culture, but maybe it is time to look at the current political situation and the options that are available to us this fall. (in the US)

What options do we, catholics, christians, agnostics, etc.have?

There are no good options any more; all we can do is to wait out the storm.

I don’t mean to sound hyperbolic, but has a society ever been in such a chaotic state as ours is in today? I mean, there must be some sort of precedent or worse time than this, right…?🤷

The current USA?

Well, how about 1763 when a major war was being fought on its soil?

Or 1861 when it was tearing itself apart?

Or 1933 when its economy was in ruins?

Or 1942 when it faced ruthless foreign attackers almost wholly unprepared?

Is history not taught anymore?

The last time society has been divided to such a degree are the pre-civil war times. Or, have I missed smthng?

In the time of Noah. Back then there were only 8 people on the face of the earth worth saving. So, it isn’t that bad, yet.

Thanks for the perspective. History is still taught, my retention is just terrible; Sorry.

There hasn’t really been a total moral upheaval across the entire West before; even the whole slavery thing was a question of “does this fit into the moral scheme?” rather than “is there even a moral scheme at all?”

Maybe the last days of West Rome. Maybe revolutionary France. That’s all I can think of.

Let’s not conflate the current officially-sanctioned sexual insanity (a natural outcome of the sexual revolution) with societal decay per se.

There was nothing “natural” about the Sexual (without love) Revolution.

1n 1968, Pope Paul VI watched it get going and wrote Humanae Vitae. Dissenters inside and outside the Church were ready. In the 1970s, Adult Bookstores selling graphic porn were not planned or the planned addictions that followed? Who paid for the models, the printing, the distribution, the photographers and filmmakers? Back in 1968, the worst you could legally do was buy Playboy which had nude and semi-nude photos of women, or “girlie magazines” which had the same but were only available ‘under the counter’ or ‘if you knew where to look.’ I remember turning a corner one day and seeing “Topless Bar” at a regular bar. Or who paid for and operated all the strip clubs that sprung up? Still called “gentlemen’s clubs” in some places. Who financed Gloria Steinem and company when Ms. Magazine appeared? Who organized and backed the Women’s Liberation Movement? The one that called all men “male chauvenist pigs”? Why did the ‘welcome guest in our home,’ TV, turn against morality in the '70s? As well as movies?

The West was slowly poisoned as the years passed. A little bad, followed by a little more and then, a little more. The makers of Birth Control Pills could not have anyone listening to the Church. They had to sell product, and to quote Gloria Steinem: “A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.” But it was OK for women to have sex with them when they felt like it and dump them when they felt like it.

Unless a concerted effort to turn it back shows up at some time, I don’t know where else this could end.

In my opinion, this society (the West, speaking generally) sets the standard for evil decadence.
I have a good friend who is very hopeful and a great Christian man. He believe these are the most enlightened and compassionate times ever. Slavery is gone here in the US. Civil rights seem more advanced than ever. Medicines. Welfare. Science. Communications.

I admire his hope and try to emulate it. But I also know that this society murders human beings on a scale that would shock even the Nazis. Tens of millions of human beings have been murdered without much outcry.
A society this barbaric will not stand. It isn’t possible.

This society also cannot distinguish between a man and a woman. The insanity is not sexual, it’s demonic. It has absolutely nothing to do with sex. It has to do with deceit.
A society this unreasonable will not stand.

The decay is already done.

This is real folks. It’s here. These are young adults who are supposedly well reasoned and educated.
My hope is not in this country and culture, my hope is in the Church, which will be here long after this country is gone.

I was never one to believe that a wider initiative was under way in the 60’s and 70’s. My mind has changed. These things are not accidental add-ons to societal development.
This is a good read from someone who was part of it.

What make you think that currently there are more than eight of us worth saving?

Just want to point out that slavery is now called “human trafficking.”

Thank you for the recommendation. Here’s a good read for someone who was a key part of the push to legalize abortion in the United States. It started in 1969.

The war is still on. God is with us. We must persevere.

God did not intervene in those events. If you have evidence of such an intervention, please provide it. I genuinely think you will make quite a name for yourself among historians across the world.

It might be taught but apparently no one has learned from it!

That’s a good point.
The media does not speak much about it. Some people are disposable evidently, depending on whether their plight is popular. (all causes are important!!)

The women’s liberation movement has not made women more free.
The world is now more dangerous for women than ever. Oddly enough the detachment of sex from procreation has been disastrous for women. More objectification, more poverty.
