Looking over many of the posts that question Catholic teaching on understanding and following God’s will in deciding between unnatural birth control vs NFP, I see that it gets down to this:
Either we believe:
1.) Our universe is ordered and created by God…Following catholic teaching and practice reflects that sense of natural order. We control ourselves, work hard, and accept and surrender to God’s will in how we choose to live. This is a big trade that reaps even greater rewards.
Or we believe:
2.) Our universe is all RANDOM and we have to control many different things in order to survive and GET what WE think we want. We may have instant moments of pleasure but we also get long term insecurity about what and who to control.
God’s way or MY Way… You may think the Catholic ways of interpreting the Bible are shortsighted or foolish? But choosing “MY Way” is usually a development of “flavor of the month” social engineers telling us what to think, how to live and what to GET for ourselves. Read your history. The secular world’s “bible” changes every few months; just buy yourself a current magazine that will tell you what “WE” are all thinking now…compare it to 5 years ago, then 5 years before that, 5 years before that, etc…Catholic teaching has not changed on essential life ethics and morality issues.
I’ll take God’s way: less random, more focussed, more tried and true to human nature, more health and happiness in the long haul for myself, my family, and generations to come. If science and technology worked from this paradigm, our world would be much more sane and functional at a very deep human level.
God or Randomness? Freedom or License? Love or Lust?
