How can I confirm if Alphonsus Liguori's Theologia Moralis is valid?

Find a Redemptorist, a member of the order the Saint founded. They would certainly have the best insights.

If you use a translation that carries a ‘nihil obstat’ and/or ‘imprimatur’ this would mean that they have been examined and that there is nothing in or about them that is spiritually damaging, including translation errors that impact on the meaning.

St Alphonsus being a Doctor of the Church whose writings have been around for a significant length of time, no doubt his work has been studied in some detail by numerous experts.

Experts love to disagree and play ‘gotcha’ with each other, so it is highly unlikely, even if you are also an expert translator, that scrutiny of the original is likely to yield significant new insights.

And no, spending this much energy and investing this much importance in the writings of a saint who, great though he was, was not by any means infallible or inerrant in his writings , is NOT normal.

Find a Liguori expert (Instituto Superiore di Teologia Morale Accademia Alfonsiana at Accademia Alfonsiana) who is very familiar with all of the saint’s writings and ask if Theologia Moralis is consistent with the rest of his writings. Often books are compiled from a saint’s collection of homilies.

I have read and studied a lot of St Alphonsus’ works - can you tell me what particular section you want to confirm that applies to your life?

I understand your concern, I have found many mistranslations of the bible into English from the original Greek and Hebrew, and even in the Catholic Catechism translations from Latin into English.

Why this doubt? Do you suspect a spiritual attack? Have you spoken with Father?
 
There may be numerous theories; I doubt strongly you will find any by faithful Catholics. It is far more likely these “theories” are by anti-Catholics.

The French Revolution impacted France. There were a multitude of countries where the Catholic Church as present, which had no association with nor impact from the Revolution. You would do well to stop reading such tripe, as it appears to be impacting you in a very negative way. And if you have questions caused by your reading, you need to speak with a priest about the specifics you seem to be fearing.

Because infallibility is a charism that is only exercised by Popes and Bishops at specific times and under specific circumstances. Bishops approve such writings.as an exercise of authority, but not of infallibility.

One example being Pope Benedict’s ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ books. They were written as theological works and not as official definitive.proclamations on matters of faith and morals, And therefore are NOT exercises of Papal or Magisterial authority.
