How can I prove that hell exists to someone who believes in god but doesn’t believe in the existence of hell

Luke 16
29 But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’ 30 He said, ‘Oh no, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ 31 Then Abraham said, ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.’”

This is exactly the passage of Scripture I was going to reference.

Bottom line, you cannot do it.

As this person grows in faith, the Holy Spirit will work in them.

If they claim to be a Christian, you simply need to point them to the Scriptures. They are very clear about the reality of Hell. Even if one wants to debate what exactly Hell is, the mere existence of Hell is not up for debate.

Well have you ever come across a person who believes in god but isn’t Christian she also believes in Buddhism

This is a very good point. Bishop Robert Barron points out that the person who speaks most about Hell (Gehenna) in the scriptures is Christ himself. So, it’s not a point to be missed. Your friend may be open to various views of Hell that do not insist that it is a place of unending torment and suffering… But, the reality of Hell cannot be denied, at least for a follower of Christ. But, emphasizing the love and mercy of God is the best route to go, especially these days. Whatever one wants to think about Hell (its essence), God is love and His mercy endures forever.

You cannot believe in Jesus without believing in hell. Since Jesus confirms it.

Padre Pio once said about people who doubted in the existence of hell: “They’ll believe in hell when they get there.”

That there is a sobering thought.

Iv’e never though that quote is as pithy as everyone thinks. I believe in hell, I believe that more people will go there than people think. But I don’t believe all who don’t believe in Hell are destined to go there. Frankly, I’m betting if the great saint could take that back or change the context, he would.

Unfortunately from a purely scientific point of view we cannot “prove” the existence of the Spiritual realms. Heaven, Purgatory, Hell are known more from Revelation and Philosophical discourse than “scientific proof”.
As others have already pointed out there are many Scripture passages that are essential for the “knowledge” we have of these “places”.
You must always remember that when we speak of Heaven and Hell we anthropomorphize our speech. Heaven, Purgatory and Hell are not really places but we tend to look at them in this way.
