From my understand, when we’re in Heaven/Hell, we’re not able to get out. So, how is it possible for Mary to appear on Earth to people during apparitions?

Only the lost souls in hell are bound there. Those in heaven are free to come and go as God directs them. For example, Moses and Elijah met Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. If they couldn’t get out of heaven how did they appear there? 😉

RADIANTLY (and probably first to young people)

I’m certain, and you can quote me.

Boom.

Yep! Plus Mary has a glorified body and thus also has the benefit of being able to appear physically too.

Well technically neither Moses or Elijah were in heaven before Christ opened the gates of heaven and descended to hell and brought the righteous to heaven, but your point remains the same. 😃

Mary is not here incarnate, but as an apparition. Thus, she sometimes appears as the nationality of the culture in which she appears. So we are not necessarily seeing her true appearance, as I understand. And by “appearing” she is not “departing” from heaven any more than the angel Gabriel might have been “gone” from heaven when he was at the Annunciation.

Do you believe that heaven and hell are separate places far away from earth?

Angels and Saints (and demons) exist in a spiritual realm. This realm overlaps our physical realm, but does not directly interact with it.

The only spiritual being that can interact with our physical realm is God. No other spiritual being can do so of his/her own ability (not even our Blessed Mother). But such interaction is possible if it is enabled by a miracle of God. Mary (or any Saint, or any angel, or any demon) can appear or interact (or directly influence) us only if God enables it.

By way of analogy, I will borrow from Isaac Asimov. Imagine a two-dimensional world. Let’s call it Flatland. It is inhabited by two-dimensional stick-men, who move about, but must always go around any obstacle (they cannot go over or below it). We three-dimensional beings might be able to observe the activity of the residents of Flatland, but we could never insert ourselves into their world or interact with them in any way. The only way we could do that would be some sort of “miracle.” Our three dimensional world overlaps Flatland, but we cannot ever visit Flatland.

Wasn’t that by Abbott? Not Asimov?
I have not read anything by Abbott. I remember reading about Flatland in either Asimov on Numbers or (more likely) Asimov on Physics, which were collections of previously published material. A quick Wikipedia search on Abbott reveals that Asimov wrote the introduction to the Fifth Edition of Abbott’s Flatland, and this may have been included in one of Asimov’s collections. Or maybe Asimov expanded on the concept with additional “Flatland” analogies. At any rate, my analogy refers to how “Flatland” was explained by Asimov. I don’t know how closely it pertains to Abbott, because Asimov was concerned only with the physical properties of Flatland, whereas Abbott apparently used Flatland as a socio-political satirical metaphor (Lewis Carroll style).

Sublime.

Your analogy was sound, make no mistake. :o This is a handy video as a visual aid that I cite sometimes to reflect what you describe.
