Well, since no one has ever proven to my satisfaction that he WAS the messiah, there is no sin at all for me.

Just saying that is a terrible sin against God.

What I found amazing, to me personally, is that that shooting of the Amish children took place on Yom Kippur, our Day of Atonement. In fact I didn’t even find out about the shooting until later that night, because I was in shul all day.

At the time, I’d been struggling with a forgiveness issue relative to a family member…and I took that incident as a sign from God that, just as those Amish people forgave the murder of their children, I could certainly find it within myself to forgive a family member for far less.

Something I learned since that day: forgiveness is very central to Judaism. In fact we’re supposed to ask forgiveness of others leading up to that day.

Christianity did not invent forgiveness; they got the idea from our religion, since their religion originated within ours.

Absolutely we should seek forgivness for those we have sinned against. But that’s different than forgiving.

Some try to get around this belief by saying I could have a death bed conversion, but I am not planning to have one. I will live and die a Buddhist.

This is an error that is promulgated by many, of recent times one Michael Vick, and that is the notion that one finds God.

God calls all, incessantly, through the indelible mark that is given to every human; the conscience. However, because of the gift of free will, which is unique to our human dignity, God allows us to listen to other voices which can draw us away from Him.
