How did I meet my boyfriend?

He pulled me over in his cruiser XD It was windy as heck, and I was staggering down the sidewalk, and he thought I was drunk!

I met my husband for the first time at my boyfriend (M’s) house… We were celebrating one of his other friend’s birthdays and I starting chatting with him. It was uncomfortable because I wanted to speak with him more, but here I was, dating one of his friends. Things weren’t going all that well with me and M and a few months later, he broke up with me.

One afternoon, my friend Lisa called me for some advice. She had been asked out by B (who is now my DH) and didn’t know what to do. She wanted to go out with him, but was unsure because of their height difference (my hubby is short!!). Anyway, she decided to say no to him, and then I asked her if she could set us up together… And she was OK with it.

My boyfriend (and future husband :)) is quite literally my knight in shining armor 🙂

We both happen to be in the same LARPing group (Dagorhir, if anyone is interested).
The group’s theme is the Knights Templar, and we met at the week long event in Ohio, where we spent the whole week in costume and going by character names. (we didn’t know each others real names for the first 6 days!)

We spent a lot of time together during the week, and on that Thursday, he ended up saving my life. During one of the battles, I started to get very over heated, so i went to sit it out. 10 minutes later, when the rest of the group returned, I was nearly unconscious. Well, guess who turns out to be a trained field medic? 😃 They didn’t tell me til later just how close i was to being sent to the hospital, but my Knight took good care of me, even sprinting a mile back to camp in over 50lbs of chain mail to get me ice.

I still joke that my heart rate would have returned to normal a lot sooner if it hadn’t been him checking it 😊

We ended up riding home in the same car, so for 6 hours, it was pretty much just the 2 of us talking. We spent the next 2 days constantly texting and talking and went on our first date on the 3rd day. at the end of the movie, after the credits, he leaned in to kiss me (my first kiss, i might add) and this cheesy old romantic music started playing in the theater. Perfect timing!

By the end of the week, we knew we were getting married, and with any luck, we will be early next summer. It would have been this summer if his family wasn’t sick and needed him and i wasn’t still in college. Heck, it would have been last summer if we’d had our way 😃

My husband and I met when we happened to take the same college math class. It was a small class so everyone pretty much got to know everyone by name. He was one of the few people I hadn’t known from previous classes. And then he dropped out!

None of that is all that particularly cute or interesting but what happened was that a little while later I was walking to class one day and I saw him standing next to the math building. As I got closer I realized he was watching me. And when I finally got enough I realized that he wanted to talk to me.

Turns out he had been waiting for me because he wanted to ask me out on a date. Which was not so unusual except that when he asked me if I wanted to go to this certain event he was using this tone of voice where it sounded like this was the hundredth time he’d asked and he really needed to finally get an answer! Even though I was a bit put off I though that watching the Long Beach Grand Prix would be fun so I said yes.

Much later (and it may have been years later) when I mentioned how his tone of voice had been so strange when he asked me out he admitted that in his head he really had asked me many times and apparently I was just not accepting !😛

We met on a Catholic retreat for young adults. I didn’t get to know him very well at all during the weekend. I was playing guitar and hung out with the other musicians. At the end of the retreat, we were all sitting in a circle on the floor, singing praise songs.

After everyone got up to leave, he found my guitar pick on the floor but I’d already left. A week or so later, he happened to show up at my college with a group of people to watch a film. We bumped into each other in the hall at the drinking fountain. I was embarrassed I couldn’t remember his first name for certain, but he remembered mine, and said, “I have your guitar pick.” He mailed it back to me, with the sweetest letter.

Our first date was a surprise birthday party of one of the girls who’d also gone on the retreat.

I always thought I’d love to marry a musician! I didn’t, but music brought us together anyway. 🙂

As a fellow LARPer, this story made my day XD

I was friends with my DH’s cousin. On his first night in town she invited him to a friend’s party that I happened to be at. I noticed the cute guy in the corner right off, but it took a year of meeting up, getting butterflies, then not seeing him for weeks or months before I finally got the nerve to include him in a friend’s weekend ski trip. I knew that if I didn’t make a move that weekend I’d lose him so I got up the courage to flirt a little harder and by the end of the weekend it was obvious to the other people in our group that we both liked each other. Later that week he asked me out on a date and less than two year’s later we got married! It’s been a blessing marrying someone who truly knows me, can laugh at my silliness, and cuddle me close when I need a hug. We’re both looking forward to experiencing the many years of happiness that so many of you are talking about.

We meet on match.com, he jokes that we should do a comercial for them. We have been together almost 2 years now and we are getting married on June 5.

I met my husband in electromagnetics class. We didn’t start dating until the next term though, when we were in another electrical engineering class together.

I met my dh on a camping weekend with a fellow I was dating and his family. Dh was his best friend. It didn’t work out between us and dh asked if it was okay if he asked me out. We went out one time during the summer and nothing. Then we went out Labor Day weekend. Got engaged two weeks later, and married in December. Been together 21 years. Though we still have to get our marriage convalidated, I wonder if I can still claim being married that long??

I met my husband at a high school football game our senior year (he was from the visiting school). I always went to games with a large group of friends, but almost sat that one out because my sister wasn’t feeling well and didn’t go. Luckily, I let the rest of the gang talk me into it.

We were pretty straight-laced kids–didn’t drink or do drugs or get into any trouble–but we were high-spirited and were jokingly “trash-talking” the students from the other school about how badly our team would beat theirs, etc.

With 2 minutes left, and our school down 21 points, we figured we’d better make a graceful–and early–exit. I was somewhat of a smart-mouth (I know you all are so shocked!) and I just HAD to say one more thing to the next person I saw that was obviously from the other school. And as we were crossing the parking lot, there was my future hubby, wearing a cap with his school’s logo. So I made some sort of remark about how his team had just been lucky, etc…and the rest is history. We dated through the rest of our senior year and all through college, and married about a year after graduation. We were married almost 17 years until his death 9 years ago.

About 3 1/2 years ago, I was at a bar listening to an awesome band. The lead guitarist came up to me after they were through and started talking to me. He asked me to come back next week, when they would be playing again. So, I did come back–only to find that the owner of the bar hadn’t liked their music and had fired them! The band didn’t have a web site, and I only knew the guitarist’s first name and that he had the most beautiful smile I’d ever seen.

Forward to February 2008…I went back to that same bar because there was a new band playing. Watching them set up, I thought to myself ‘that sorta looks like the guy I met a few years ago.’ When he turned around and smiled that incredible smile, that was it–I knew I had found him again! He came over to the bar for a diet Coke and saw me and immediately recognized me as well (although he had forgotten my name!)

We were inseparable from then on, and he gave me an engagement ring for Christmas 2008. We would have been married this spring, but he passed away in August 2009.

I met my husband in High School, we have been together for ten years married for three. The only that could be considered cute or interesting is we had a mutual friend P, and she introduced me to him. and I introduced her to my friend J, and they are now also married. Although I was not happy with my DH when they got married before us. LOL

I met my wife while attending a high school play with my best friend who was dating her best friend. Both girls were performing in the play and we went out afterwards, hit it off and the rest is history. We celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary in February. I think it’s going to work out, LOL!

Love these stories!

I met my fiance at a Young Adults parish Christmas party. The invite had been sent out over a listserve, and he was brave enough to show up without knowing anyone. I noticed he was cute, but I was dating someone else from Ave Maria Singles and spent the entire evening giggling with my girlfriends over my long-distance relationship. Then my future DH showed up at my surprise birthday party a few weeks later… again, a social risk because he wasn’t close friends with anyone at that point.

He spent 6 months trying to get my attention: walking me to my car, offering me a ride to the March for Life, etc. Finally, my other relationship bombed, and after a few months of singlehood I realized, *hey wait a minute… that guy from church who has been trying to get my attention is really a catch! *🙂 Duh! 🙂

We dated 2.5 years and will be getting married this November! 🙂

These stories are giving a single gal like me hope. Keep ‘em comin’!

We met in our high school youth group actually back in junior year. We were a little less than friends but more than acquaintances if that makes any sense, but I didn’t hang out with her much then because she had a well… very overweight and very obnoxious friend who had a crush on me and I wanted nothing to do with her. I went to Chicago for school, she to St. Louis and then back to Florida. We talked after church a number of times when we saw each other on break, but not much more.

Then in the summer leading to my senior year in college, I saw, on Facebook of all places, that her 21st birthday was coming up. So I asked her if I could buy her a drink on that day and she agreed. We had a beer or two and watched the US-Italy World Cup match and then later hung out on the pier for a number of hours. The next time we hung out I just decided I was going to finally “man up” and ask her on a real date. She quickly agreed and about six months later we got engaged and nine months after that we got married. Closing in on three years now with two gorgeous little ones already!

Curious note, apparently she didn’t have a crush on me in high school but she always respected me for speaking my mind and defending the Church’s teaching, even if I did go about it in a pretty rude and in-your-face way. Which is 100% true, I was and still am a jerk on a number of occasions. Anyway, she was actually supposed to go out for a real date with another guy on her birthday, but decided to cancel just to hang out with me. That guy never got another chance since we went on our first real serious date 10 days later and I haven’t let her go since!

Hello,
My wife and I are both blind. We have a three-year-old son, who is not blind, named Aaron. We first met at a Christmas party when we were maybe five years old. Then when I was eight years old I started going to Beacon Lodge camp for blind and visually impaired. She attended that camp also but I really don’t remember her being there. We also attended a sports Olympics camp for blind and other disabled people. All of these camps and activities took place in Pennsylvania.
When I was 15 or so me, my future wife, and our friend Jason went to the sports camp–we all went there once a year in June. But anyway when I was 15 or maybe 16 or so every year on Friday night they have a dance. Well I decided I liked my wife whose name is LuAnn so we ended up together all night until it ended. Afterwards we went our separate ways for a few years. Then in college I found out she happened to be attending the same college I was, Kutztown University. So we got together again and started dating. We ten in two years or so decided to drop out of college because we did not have materials in braille to study Spanish and take our classes and pass them, so we dropped out. We moved into her parents house for 9 months. During that time she got pregnant with Aaron. Aaron was born at home in the bathtub in early 2007. Apparently somehow we don’t know how, or who, but child services got wind of this, decided that blind people could not possibly be fit to be parents, and tried to take our kid away from us. So we got the national federation of the blind involved and through their help we got that case pretty much closed. But that caused us to have to move to a small city. Then in 2008, realizing I did not have the skills to get around by myself in even a small city I fought with Voc Rehab for a year or so and finally made it into the Colorado Center for the Blind’s eight month training program. I graduated. The graduation requirements were:

I had to do projects for classes.
for travel/mobility they had me plan a route to four different suburbs in the Denver area, plan it take a day and use the info I gathered from my route planing to go enjoy myself.
2. they took me out in a vehicle, drove me around for awhile, dropped me off in a random place and expected me to find my way back to the school building on my own, only being allowed to ask two questions along the way. no using gps, no braille or talking compass, just with the use of a cane.

For computer class I installed a Linux console operating system onto an older computer, I installed grml Linux. Then I taught the instructor on the basics of how to use it.

for cooking class I had to shop for groceries, bring them back to the center, and cook a meal for 60 people. I had three or so days to complete that.

for industrial arts class I used the tools such as miter saws and drills with some help from the instructor to make a case for dvds.

for braille class I used the braille embosser which is connected to a computer running windows to emboss a book of recipes I collected, then used a binding machine to bind the pages and put covers on.
I also bought a netbook, set up windows, and use it with the NVDA free screen reader. while there I also bought a high quality talking olympus ds50 digital recorder and recorded over 4gigs of mp3 files of my activities at the center.
Now I’m back home with my wife. So then in 2009 after going to several catholic churches in my city, buying a talking gps called loadstone gps, I decided to go to the catholic church closest to my house. My wife is not catholic. But since we got married in 2006 in a court we got our marriage blessed, Aaron baptized catholic–in–2009, and now I will be attending capella university online to get a bachelors degree in information technology so I can get a good job, get off SSI, and take care of my family better. Currently the percentage of unemployed blind people in the USA is 75% or so. If I can accomplish so much I hope this inspires others to do so also.
