?How do Catholics define the gospel?
109 In Sacred Scripture, God speaks to man in a human way. To interpret Scripture correctly, the reader must be attentive to what the human authors truly wanted to affirm, and to what God wanted to reveal to us by their words.
110 In order to discover the sacred authors’ intention, the reader must take into account the conditions of their time and culture, the literary genres in use at that time, and the modes of feeling, speaking and narrating then current. “For the fact is that truth is differently presented and expressed in the various types of historical writing, in prophetical and poetical texts, and in other forms of literary expression.”
111 But since Sacred Scripture is inspired, there is another and no less important principle of correct interpretation, without which Scripture would remain a dead letter. “Sacred Scripture must be read and interpreted in the light of the same Spirit by whom it was written.”
This is a very brief summary:i mean what is the gospel message?
What is the “good news”?
Any questions?PROLOGUE
"FATHER, . . . this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent."1 "God our Savior desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."2 "There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved"3 - than the name of JESUS.
1 God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son as Redeemer and Savior. In his Son and through him, he invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, his adopted children and thus heirs of his blessed life.
Shortest answer: Jesus Christ? How do Catholics define the gospel?
I hope that you are not simply baiting Catholics. With your thousands of posts and years here, I am highly suspicious of your motives. For $8.95, you can buy a catechism and compare revealed truth to what I believe is your private interpretation of scripture.i mean what is the gospel message?
What is the “good news”?
Hi bro, would you say that i believe in a different gospel?A good short passage from the Catechism also quotes Mark 1:1.*422 ‘But when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.’ This is ‘the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God’:’ God has visited his people. He has fulfilled the promise he made to Abraham and his descendants. He acted far beyond all expectation - he has sent his own ‘beloved Son’.*I’ve understood it similar to this wording----that God sent His Son to reunite man to Him (like before the Fall).
The couple of paragraphs after 422 also give more tidbits.![]()
Is “the gospel message” the same as “what is necessary to be saved?”This is a very brief summary:
Any questions?
I don’t know. What do you mean by the phrase “to be saved”?Is “the gospel message” the same as “what is necessary to be saved?”
In the introductory notes of Galations in Biblia Clerus it states"Here is why i ask…
death burial and resurrection is the gospel right?
But Paul also says this.
GAL 1:6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!
So were people perverting the death burial and resurrection or was there something more? were they perverting how the message of grace was recieved and taught?
And:…converts from paganism (Gal 4:8-9) who were now being enticed by other missionaries to add the observances of the Jewish law…
And:…These interlopers insisted on the necessity of following certain precepts of the Mosaic law along with faith in Christ…
What do you think? When Paul learned of the situation, he wrote this defense of his apostolic authority and of the correct understanding of the faith. He set forth the unique importance of Christ and his redemptive sacrifice on the cross, the freedom that Christians enjoy from the old burdens of the law, the total sufficiency of Christ and of faith in Christ as the way to God and to eternal life, and the beauty of the new life of the Spirit.
You believe in God sending the Son part. It’s the subsequent paragraphs of what we believe He told us to do and believe where we part.Hi bro, would you say that i believe in a different gospel?
Paul was speaking of the Judaizers, who were trying to maintain the observance of the Mosaic law, even though Christ had freed them form the law. This, he speaks of in Galatians 3:25 and 5:18.Here is why i ask…

Yes, they were teaching legalism, attempting to return the believers to a bondage of obedience to rules. Protestant Reformers likewise perverted the gospel, but by taking an Antinomian tack. Here is why i ask…
