I like the link. And for those of us who cannot receive Holy Communion, what do we do?

We can pray a prayer of spiritual communion – for example from EWTN web site:
An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
Jimmy,That prayer seems to deminish the presence of the Lord when you it says AT LEAST SPIRITUAL… Is our Lord, our father, and holy spirit not a spirit. So when we recieve Him do we not recieve His Spirit.

It wasn’t me who made that post but it seems you addressed it to me so. He was talking about if you can not recieve communion. That prayer is not saying that Christ is only present spiritually in the Eucharist.

Spokenword, Receiving Jesus “at least spiritually” is as opposed to body, blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist.

It would be as if I told you that if you will not see your beloved to day at least call him/her on the phone. Yes it is really your beloved and you communicate with them but it is not the fullness.

The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist is a doctrine and indeed foundational to the Catholic faith. If indeed it is not true than the church cannot be the true church because it teaches error.

There are books written about miracles happening with the Eucharist. God goes out of his way to show us that it is indeed TRUE.

I also enjoy reading the personal feelings of converts when they receive for the first time. Steven Ray whose conversion story is detailed in “Crossing The Tiber” says he and his wife cried at mass for the first five years because of the overwhelming feelings they had.

For Protestants when they receive the bread at “The Lord’s Supper” it is really only a symbol because they do not have the apostolic succession that is needed to change the bread and wine into Christ sacramentally.

I can only suggest that you go to a Catholic Church and ask Jesus to show you.

Thanks for resurrecting this! I just love it and I think it is so important for us to be able to share with all - how we DO HEAR the Gospel!

God Please,

Mgeising 🙂 👍

God Please,
Not a problem!

This time I got smart. I added this thread to my subscribed threads so when I have to search for it again, I can narrow the search considerably!

Thank you for originally posting!

God Bless,
Maria

Thanks for the link. I printed it out!

It shows that the Catholic Church is scriptural and Bible-based. Plus, every Mass has an Old Testament (prophesy) reading, a (Responsorial) Psalms from the Book of Psalms, and a New Testament (fulfillment) reading from the scriptures. Another scriptural plus is that the Catholic Church follows a consistent lectionary, whereby the whole Bible is covered in a three year period, and there are consistent readings for each Mass at each Parish 'round the world.

That’s far more methodical than so many fundamentalist churches where the individual minister says 'well, let’s see, what will I preach on this Sunday…hmmmm??"

Yes, that is one thing I personally love about this tract … it gets to the heart of what we believe and why we believe. AMEN!
