K_H2,I guess the best way to defend the Extraordinary form is by telling the truth about it.
The Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite is a GOD CENTERED MASS.
The Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite is a MAN CENTERED MASS.
Dietrich von Hildebrand: true son of the Church, philosopher, Fordham professor and called the “20th Century Doctor of the Church” by Pope Pius XII, reached essentially the same conclusion. When he went to see Paul VI, to implore the Holy Father to not, in effect, “do away” with the Traditional Latin Mass, von Hildebrand was angrily dismissed–so the narrative goes (as related by Alice von Hildebrand).
The two forms, I agree, though both valid, are nevertheless fundamentally, focally different. These differences have been ignored, trivialized and swept under the rug for decades. God willing, may we see charitable, frank and courageous discussion about these differences en route to true, fruitful and lasting reform.
Mary, Help of Christians, pray for us!
