How do I defend the Tridententine Mass?

I guess the best way to defend the Extraordinary form is by telling the truth about it.
The Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite is a GOD CENTERED MASS.
The Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite is a MAN CENTERED MASS.
K_H2,
Dietrich von Hildebrand: true son of the Church, philosopher, Fordham professor and called the “20th Century Doctor of the Church” by Pope Pius XII, reached essentially the same conclusion. When he went to see Paul VI, to implore the Holy Father to not, in effect, “do away” with the Traditional Latin Mass, von Hildebrand was angrily dismissed–so the narrative goes (as related by Alice von Hildebrand).

The two forms, I agree, though both valid, are nevertheless fundamentally, focally different. These differences have been ignored, trivialized and swept under the rug for decades. God willing, may we see charitable, frank and courageous discussion about these differences en route to true, fruitful and lasting reform.

Mary, Help of Christians, pray for us!

My grandmother (who attends a womynpriest congregation) also feels the same way about the EF Mass.

When I said that I follow along in a missal, she said “You shouldn’t be staring in a book the whole time!”

I think that older liberal Catholics are not fond of the EF because to them it symbolizes the older, more reserved and restricted world that they grew up in. The EF makes less room for the “spirit of Vatican II” than the new Mass does.

One thing I learned after hours of discussing this and other Church issues with her is that some people will never change their minds, so we agree to disagree.

That said, go to the EF or the OF, whatever Mass you want so long as it isn’t heretical, and don’t let anybody make you back down. You have a right to attend which form of the liturgy you want! 🙂

SIGH! If only our bishops and priests would embrace that sentiment! : )

Anyone who talks like a traditionalist around here gets banned.
Oh. I didn’t realize. I think that I will go and visit Father Z.
I have been lurking for almost two years. I guess I should have continued my lurking.

Is Fr. Z’s site a forum like Catholic Answers?
