How do I foster Perfect Contrition? Everybody has the potential to have Perfection Contrition, but self-love often gets in the way. I know loving God because he is good is the primary and #1 goal of all Catholics (non-Catholics included), but the fear of going to Hell is overwhelmingly common and overshadows it. Obviously, those who don’t love the Lord, or are Lukewarm are on a Train-ride to Hell.
Loving the Lord because of the fear of his just punishments (Hell) seems wrong and disordered (and probably is).
How do we muster the Will to have Perfect Contrition when God gives us the grace to have it?

I think it can only be achieved by the grace of God. I wish I could say how.

Never assume that someone is on the train to hell. That is a judgement that only God can make, esp. because someone can find God or repent at the last moment of life as the two criminals did on the crosses. I do wonder id Perfect Contrition’ 100% possible as we were all born of original sin. I am nor saying it isn’t, but wonder. Interested in other response. Peace.

I have wondered about this too

I really do wish I could get rid of my selfishness and have more sorrow for having hurt God that fearing I will be punished

If I hurt a friend i probably would care about them more than getting punished for it
So I try to apply that to God
But when the devil constantly tells you that God is going to punish you
It’s hard to have that friendship feeling

When I try to imagine perfect contrition
I see Jesus looking at my sin and he isn’t mad or angry just wishing I had done better and disappointed
That image always make me very sorrowful that Jesus would feel that way

Just my one cent on the matter
