Without distracting from the original question as much, do you have any sources on how any program of relativism can be objective? So a universal standard morality can come in lots of ways, ways that are definitely not “Catholic.” From a technical point of view, meta-ethical programs of relativism (which is also a vague term) can be objective.
Will you accept my degree in philosophy? “Relativism” is one of those words that philosophers and rhetorists throw about in their papers, and change the meaning to suit what they’re talking about. I’m fair certain it isn’t the same sort of relativism that people think of colloquially.Without distracting from the original question as much, do you have any sources on how any program of relativism can be objective?
Thank you.“In place T, X is true/false” That is an ‘objective’ statement. And "the truth of moral
On a recent edition of the television show Politically Incorrect, super model Kathy Ireland gave a carefully reasoned scientific and philosophic defense of the pro-life position. The show’s host, Bill Maher, shot back with, “Kathy, that’s just your view.”
What’s wrong with this response? Maher was confusing a moral claim with a preference claim.
Instead of looking for ‘one standard’, search for a ‘greatest good standard’. Can there be a standard so great; that possibly even God could do nothing greater? Objective, meaning universal and only one standard
So if we’re unanimously agreed on any moral matter then it becomes objective?Because we all agree there are certain things which are simply evil to do.
It is a pain, but definitions really count in matters such as this. So you need to define exactly what makes something morally wrong in the first place. Please use any Philosophic and/or Scientific evidences. Thank you![]()
