Hi,
First off, I’d like to say congrats on finding who you believe to be a wonderful man who loves and respects you. This is obviously something special, or else you wouldn’t be at the point of wanting to introduce him to your parents (and he also at that point of truely wanting to meet them).
I would like to say that yes, sure 10 years is a “big” difference. But I’d also like to say I have known marriages…and good marriages at that…where the woman was 10 years younger. My aunt and uncle have and amazing marriage and 3 wonderful kids. My aunt is my dad’s sister and she’s 10 years younger. Honestly, of all the really good Catholic marriages in my extended family (and unfortunately there has been a lot of divorce in my family) I would have to say theirs is it. So really I think in spite of an age difference, it is possible for things to work out and you to have a wonderful common bond. Besides…it takes guys a while to figure out their life and maturity sometimes
That being said, I know my parents would have been concerned at first but I agree with previous posters that said you should confidently explain the situation with “Mom, Dad, I want to tell you I’ve been seeing someone, and I really think he is a wonderful and good man.” Or something like that. Then start with other good qualities before explaining how you met or the age difference. In some ways…I wonder if you could get away with not telling the age difference until after they meet (like maybe they would guess) but I don’t know if that is a good idea. Hard to say. The only thing with that situation is at least they’d be judging the man, and not the “age”.
Anyways, hope things work out!
