I’ve never had the “pleasure” of searching for a church home, but most of my friends and coworkers are Protestants, so I’ve seen the process play through many times. Maybe it doesn’t work this way everywhere, but around here it seems like most people just make it known that they’re open to looking, and pretty soon they get invited by just about everybody to visit their church. They’ll ask the inviter a few questions, and I guess based on what they hear, they decide whether it sounds promising enough to justify spending a Sunday morning visiting. Of course, this is a friendly little Bible Belt area, so maybe it doesn’t work that way elsewhere.

Yes, we can really know what it means to worship in spirit and in truth. That truth is found in the Catholic Church. Christ did not leave us alone to figure this out by ourselves, but left the Holy Spirit to guide His One Church in spirit and in truth. This is not an invisible church but a tangible church that has kept records from the time of Christ what it means to worship and how to “have church.” For me, to bring this back to the original question of this thread, I no longer follow after my favorite musicians, but look to the Church to guide me in the truth. I can get my music needs met elsewhere.

You are the one claiming that your style of worship is the true way.
Thanks for telling me i would have never known that.
But i can’t kneel down and worship Him in person in my own home.

]That’s “Church music.” It’s for going down on your knees and praying to God with; not for dancing with.
Ever notice how many times in the Psalms, where it refers to playing harps, cymbals and other instruments in worshipping God? How about Psalms 100:1? What about in Samuel when they were celebrating the return of the Ark of the Covenant? There is a time and place for every kind of music! Sometimes, I like the lights down low, and "Amazing Grace(My Chains are Gone) playing, and other times, “All Because of Jesus,” is appropriate!

The only time I ever attended a Catholic Church other than the closest one, was a time in high school when the closest parish (10 miles away) had a priest with such a heavy French accent that none of us could understand him. (And my dad grew up speaking French!) So we went to the nearest Catholic Church in the opposite direction, maybe 15 miles away. We only lived there one year, so I don’t know if we would have continued that way.

That’s what I did for the person who smashed out my driver’s side window, and stole a purse from my car last week! And I never said that my style of worship was the “true” way, just an acceptable way! Listen I have been to churches, where their "worship music reminds me of being at a funeral, and it was okay with me! But then I discovered contemporary Christian music! I still LOVE the old hymns, in fact I like a good mix of both. I have been worshipping Him in my home, or other’s homes for years! He will meet you wherever you are!

Jesus gave us the Church, the Church gave us the Bible, the Bible includes the Book of Revelation, and the Book of Revelation describes how worship is done in heaven, so I guess you could say Jesus gave us some direction after all. The description of worship in heaven does indeed include heavenly music, but it includes much more and sounds VERY Catholic.

I haven’t jumped into the whole Eucharist thing (it is off topic a bit) but this says it all bout the Eucharist
John 6: 47-66

How about’s we use the music the apostle’s listened to during their worship…gee what would that be none? Let’s not forget the folk whom say no to music during worship…
Now you’re questioning my “ear” for music? Do catholic churches have good music? Heard some pretty “rockin” tunes at a catholic funeral in Fresno, Ca last year! Did Davidplay music for God, h-m-m-m-m, thr harp maybe? And it’s okay to not have music during worship, but it’s equally okay to have it

This may be part of what drew me to the Catholic Church. I loved the visions of heavenly worship in the book of Revelation. I loved those scriptures, and I loved to sing any song with text from Revelation. Now here I get to have a little glimpse of heaven every time I go to Mass.

I agree, because I see where he is coming from. I have been there myself. God is much more than music (worship). Maybe someday you’ll see Church is not about YOU FEELING GOOD, it is about our Lord Jesus Christ.

The church has dropped the “Church of Christ” in the name. Honestly I think everything else is exactly the same. I think the die-hard “Church of Christ” members were struggling with all of the musical instruments, so they shed the name.

WEll, D-U-H! I already know that God is way more than music!
And I also know that it is not about what YOU get out of the worship, it’s about what God gets out of the worship! Is His name glorified, does He receive the praise that He is worthy of?- Status
