How do non-denominational Christians pick a church?

The search for an infailable human leader and absolutely 100% correct teaching is a specificcally a fundamental Catholic goal, your brothers in Christ or even a single God do not share that need. Someone who believes he found that at his single local church we all accuse of falling into a cult.
So… you don’t believe the gospel is 100% true? Then what’s the point? If you do believe the gospel is 100% true, then which one?

The four gospels were aimed at different audiences. If one author left something out or a committee decided it wasn’t needed as they translated is the gospel no longer true?

I’m not asking you which book of the Bible (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John) is true. Go back and re-read my questions. I’m talking about Churches’ (differing) versions of the Good News (gospel).

Of course I “care for cafeteria Catholics”, 1beleevr!

However, I do think they’re telling Jesus, “Hey, I agree with you on feeding the poor and stuff, but you’ve got it wrong about divorce and remarriage. And you’ve got it wrong with __________”

So, yes, come join us at the Table, at the Marriage Feast, 1beleevr. Come where we receive Him in the most intimate and sublime Union ever made for man. But come when you can submit and obey ALL of Christ, not just the attractive part of Him.

Praise God, that I am already at the table of grace:thumbsup: Much like Mephibosheth, although I am not worthy, my Saviour bids me,“Come sup with me.” And you know what I mean by my being a “cafeteria catholic,” one who does not go to confession(no need), doesn’t pray through Mary, does not refer to the pope as Holy Father, and displays a Cross which is still empty 2000+ years later! He didn’t get it wrong about divorce, but He did get it right about forgiveness and acceptance:thumbsup: And I wish that people would stop putting Jesus in a box, saying you can only meet Christ in the eucharist:eek:This is not necessarily what Jesus taught, nor did He teach us to do communion every week or twice weekly! I believe He said,…“As often as you do this, do it in remembrance of me.” So, if you can put up with someone who loves Jesus more than his wife, but won’t go to confession, call the pope Holy Father, or pray though Mary, and doesn’t believe in purgatory, then we may be sitting side by side at mass someday!

This would be a futile search, as the ONLY infallible human leader went home to His Father, over 2000 years ago:thumbsup:

And praise God beleevr I am there with you and ain’t it great. I will sit by your side anywhere. Amen to all those things you listed, I do not do them, so yes indeed we are family in Christ. Glory be!

Thank you! And not pointing fingers at anyone(because when you do, there are three pointing back at you), but I have met people from nearly every religious faith(including catholics), who have divorced and remarried! Is it Biblically right; no! But explain this one to me. I know a man, who is a catholic; was married for a number of years, with three children! When he and his wife went their separate ways, he went to the catholic priest, asking for an annulment, so that he could remarry! The grounds(true story) the marriage had not been consummated:eek: Or the catholic man who will not give his wife a divorce, but continues to live with his girlfriend, lover, mistress, whatever she is, and the two children they have produced? Before anybody throws rocks at another Christian, they better make sure their houses aren’t made of glass:cool:

I know I always have those same 3 fingers pointed back at me too. I have asked the same question about divorce myself and never got a straight answer. Or the reason for the divorce is because they never intended to remain faithful. True story. I don’t get it never will. Annulment in my humble opinion is for the convience of those who want to get remarried and this way it is as they never were married the first time.🤷 Go figure

Hey, I don’t like divorce any more than anyone, and mine was very painful, but what do you do when your ex doesn’t want to do counseling(Christian or secular), and just says, “See ya!” Believe me, if I could have convinced my ex-wife to give it another try, I would still be married to her! But, I still don’t understand how it’s possible to dismiss a marriage, as though it never happened:eek: And what of a couple where one is a catholic, and the other one never converts? Is there marriage valid? One of my co-workers has such a situation!

1believer. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Did you even read the link I gave you? The one I researched and posted JUST FOR YOU? Here it is again. Just for you.

Does your church look like the Church in the Book of Revelation?
]

It is interesting that you offer these verses in Revelation, as I have been in the Book of Revelation this past two weeks! And yes, there is much beauty, mixed with violence, love and victory in this beautiful book! The vision I had yesterday was of Our Bridegroom coming to pick US up and take us off to that glorious wedding feast that He is preparing just for us! I remember how I felt inside when I saw my wife"floating" down that aisle on our wedding day! 😃 Can’t begin to imagine what it will be like when we see our Groom:thumbsup: Eternity with Christ; almost too much to fathom; but I will! What do you believe John means in Revelation 20:12-13, when he wrote that all would be judged by what they had done? Does he mean works for Christ?

You will be in my prayers, brother; I know this is a big step for you! God bless you, as you go forward!👍

I tested it and found it wanting. I am in my 2nd generation of CCM right now. I was a CCM front-row groupie in the 80s, now my son is following in my footsteps. Oh yeah, his dad was a CCM deejay.

Do you believe that Jesus can show up at a contemporary Christian music concert? Is it really possible to worship Our God outside the four walls of the church building? How about a group like Selah, Chris Tomlin, Chris Rice, or maybe Michael W. Smith? Worshipping God can be acomplished by oneself in their car, or at work:thumbsup:

I am sorry if I offended you, I know that some marriages cannot be saved. I just do not get annulment.

Do you believe that God is the one that determines how he is to be worshiped, or do you believe it is up to the conscience of the individual believer? For Catholics, it is the former. It’s kind of like this: Imagine that I have invited you over for dinner, and while you are eating, I keep telling you what sort of food you like. I don’t ever ask you what you would like, and if you try to tell me, I don’t listen. I keep insisting that you like the food I am putting on your plate, because it pleases me.

Now imagine if you were God, and I kept telling you how you liked to be worshiped. That’s how Catholics feel about “choosing a church” among denominations. It seems as though non-Catholics are choosing what fits them, and then assuming that because they are happy, or feel good, or feel as though they are worshiping, that God is therefore happy and feels good and feels as though he is being worshiped. It seems as though people are ascribing their own feelings about worship to God. And Catholics believe that our own feelings cannot always be trusted. God has given us revealed Truth, and we can choose to accept it, but it does not come from our own hearts. It comes from God’s word, Jesus Christ.

So for Catholics, the question isn’t whether we can somehow feel as though we can praise God outside of the four walls of a church (we can feel this), or whether we can pray and sing to him in our cars (we can and do, and this is good). The question is, has God prescribed a specific way to worship him. And the answer, to us, is yes. In the Old Testament/Covenant, he described how the temple was to be built and worship was to take place. In the New Testament/Covenant he established the Mass at the last supper and built his Church to baptize, forgive sins, and celebrate the Mass until he comes.

We don’t feel this is optional. We haven’t done this because we feel it is the best way to worship God. Many Catholics would probably rather sing Michael W. Smith songs than receive Holy Communion, if they had a choice. But it isn’t up to us. God has told us what sort of “food” he likes at “dinner.” He has told us how he is to be lifted up and how we are to be saved. He has given us the definition of worshiping in spirit and in truth, and that is the Sacrifice of the Mass. This is why we cannot choose another Church.

How does anyone outside of the Tribunal, or the couple themselves, know what the grounds for the Declaration of Nullity were?

I have never gotten what’s up with that, nor why the girlfriend/mistress would put up with this kind of treatment. 🤷

Worship prepares the soul for the Word! Besides, we don’t want the pastor to have to shout over us!
Seriously? I thought the end goal was worship, and that the Word is supposed to prepare us for worship; not the other way around. We are not going to be attending Bible Study in Heaven - we are going to be at Mass. 🙂

We can praise God no matter where we are, and in many different styles, but “worship” is when a group of people come together in a holy place and make a sacrifice to their god. It involves a priest, a sacrifice, and a congregation who is giving the items to be sacrificed to the priest, so that he can offer it up for them.

Right! 👍 I’m pretty sure the truth will be revealed in its glory and Bible study will not be necessary. Which leaves… worship!

And I wish that people would stop putting Jesus in a box, saying you can only meet Christ in the eucharist
Well, then, 1beleevr, the Catholic Church grants your request! 👍

We have never said you “can only meet Christ in the Eucharist”.

I think I’ve bent over backwards to assure you that I believe you meet Christ in your services, in your good works, in your prayer, in your reading of the Word. In fact, I meet Christ in your posts quite often! :tiphat:

However, you do not have the One Flesh Union with him, unless you are joined to him at the Eucharist.

Just like a husband and wife may have a fabulous relationship, but they are only, literally, One Flesh, during the Marital Embrace. They may have lots of ways to be together–each one special and meaningful–but it’s only through the gift of the marital act that they can become uniquely One–and sometimes become so ONE that they create another human being. How sublime is that???
