How do you non-Catholics feel out there when you profess the Apostles Creed while in your church when it comes to saying "“We believe in the Holy Catholic church…”?
I believe those words. Of course, their interpretation is important. I believe that there is only one church established by our Lord. At the same time, I see that church as being sadly divided in this world.

Can you be more explicit? There is one Church, but many Chrisitians don’t belong formally to it, but are separated having made their own faith systems based on the written text provided by the One Church.

Pastor Gary.
i am sure you know what it means. but the Church is not divided. the Church still is the same. those who chose to leave are no longer part of the Church. they have chosen to follow their own ways. by those leaving this One Holy Church does not divide the Church. they just no longer part of Her.

she still exists intact and Holy. she is protected by our Lord.

Galatians 1:9, "As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone preach a Gospel to you other than that which you have received, let him be Anathema."

Well, first of all: the word “catholic” is not in the Danish translation of Apostolicum (or Nicaenum, for that matter). The word used is, however, a translation of the word: “almindelig” - “common” (= universal).

Secondly: I sometimes in my own prayers say: “…én hellig universel og apostolisk Kirke” (“one holy universal and apostolic Church”, and sometimes: “…én hellig katolsk og apostolisk Kirke” (one holy catholic and apostolic Church):
Sometimes “universal”, sometimes “catholic”, although most often the former. Two words that mean exactly the same thing.

Because I DO believe in the holy, catholic, Church. I just don’t believe that the branch of the Church governed by the bishop of Rome is the same thing…

Isn’t this the prelude to most things Protestant? Protestants see the words in the Bible, but interpret them differently… as each of them desires. This is a big reason why there is separation and we are not all one.

God gave us a means to all be one… His one Church with his office of chief Bishop (Prime Minister) as visible head shepherd. Christ tells us that those who do not listen to the ones He sent, also do not listen to Him. It’s plain, that if all actually listened to those Christ sent, as He asked us to, we could all be one.

One of these times I am going to go through the posters here and classify them as condescending or not condescending. If this forum is predominantly condescending, then I am out here. Why should I have to put up with this nonsense when in reality I am a guest of these forums.

This, ladies and gentlement, boys and girls, is exhibit A for a condescending post.
I know it’s hard for you. I find it hard, too, sometimes- to accept reality.

Well, if you can’t really *walk like an Egyptian *why even mimic and call yourself an Egyptian, right?🤷

There’s such a thing as “disagreeing, while still being charitable”… You might like to try it sometime. Makes you seem like less of a jerk.

(NB: No, I did not say you are a jerk…)

which Church do you think wrote the Creed?

That’s not even right.

The completely catholic Church, long before the schism, long before Christians were sadly divided. As a Catholic of the Augsburg Confession, it is part of my history, too.

what do you mean by the completely Catholic Church?

the CC still complete it does not matter if people decided to leave or not. she is still whole. she is protected by our Lord.
do you have the notion that somehow because some left the Church is no longer the Church?

do you invalidate the Truth of Jesus because so many left Him?. i dont think so.

The Early Christian Church.
what Church is this? do you have any historical document of this Church? show us.

**OMG, I cannot believe what answers I have seen on this post thus far. People who are saying capital “C”, and lower case “c” is simply utter nonsence and ignorance. There is one, ONE Catholic church, not two with upper and lower cases.
Furthermore I cannot believe the denial of these non-Catholics who inserted the word “Christian” church instead of Catholic like it was originally written.
Third, Jesus said “Universal” which was meant for his Catholic church, because, well, Catholic means Universal so why aren’t you in God’s Universal church?
I can see what Protestant pastors teach these people and what they learn from non-Catholics…pretty sad if you ask me.
“We believe in the Holy Catholic church, THE COMMUNION OF SAINTS”, I suppose you’ll tell me that the Communion of Saints means something else…oh boy…God help these people…
MDK, you are correct in what you say… 👍 **

The problem I have (I’m a Catholic):

Many creed professing Protestants believe that the Catholic Church is not part of the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.

The wounds of separation effect all of us. I do not invalidate Christ. I invalidate what we sinful creatures have done to His Church - all of us. You and I were not here in 1054, or in 1521. While those sins are not ours, they do infect us with separation.
Our sin is in not trying harder to bring unity back. I believe in one holy catholic and apostalic church, and I pray she is soon united.

That may have once been the case, but on the most part most mainline denominations (the creed professors) see the RCC as part of the church universal.
Obviously there are fringe calvinists etc who are creed professing but see the RCC as evil though. Most Baptists, congregationalists, non-denoms generally aren’t creed professing and generally don’t consider the RCC was part of the church universal.
