How do southern baptist feel about catholics?

Not all SBCers are stuck in the 16th Century.

For the record, I am a SBC minister who does not believe Rome is the Whore or Babylon and the Pope is the Antichrist. Matter of fact I do not hold to the whole Lahaye Left Behind fiction…why…not in Holy Scripture.:eek:

So please understand not all baptist are thick headed. Just way too many of us.🤷

What was that Jesus said…something about splitters in our neighbors eye and beams in ours…maybe more people should start LISTENING to Christ. I mean He is in charge…or so we all confess. See, been here too long…made me say confess, arrrggh did it again…such a catholic thingy:D

As a former Baptist, I’ll warn you that Catholicism is highly contagious. 😉

As a former Southern Baptist (Baylor educated too), I agree! 😃

I joined a Baptist forum just to see what they thought about different religions. They are very funny people. Just from reading my posts they figured out that I am Catholic. They talked about how my teachings are un-Biblical. I would show them Scriptural evidence, they would rebuke it, or just not answer. It’s really odd. If anyone would like to see…go here
 
I clicked, I really didn’t look around much, but I would say be careful not to lump all Baptists together. From what I understand from a southern Baptist friend of mine, not all Baptists are created equal and even SHE thinks some of what the independent/fundamentalists think is out there. Remember there is no set standard or infallible leader to make formal statements on the “Baptist stance” on a particular issue. Because they believe in sola scriptura, each person makes his own interpretation of the bible, which isn’t necessarily accurate to what God had in mind. Make sense?
 
Okay, I went back and did a search on the word Catholic, which lead to a really lovely thread on Santa Claus. And I must say, we should all pray for Jerry. He really needs it. :eek:

I had to virtually sit on my hands to keep from registering there just to tell him he’d be so much happier and charitable if he returned to Holy Mother Church. :o There are none so vile against the Church as those who leave her and fall for the Fundamentalist propaganda. 😦

As a former I/F Baptist, I could probably register and ask some hard questions - the ones that were asked of me for which I had no good answer and thus led me Home. But I think I’d better not. 😊
 
I went there too, they really make me sooo frustrated. My husband is SB and he will not talk to me about it, he thinks we will fight.

As a Houstonian who lived in northern Illinois for a while, I can tell you I saw WAY more back yard and front yard Mary shrines up there.
 
Just left my MIL’s and she has a statue of David in her backyard?!?! But a statue of Mary is bad? Does not make sense to me!:confused:

As a Baptist, I usually do not go onto baptist forums. I get enough of that thought in Church on Sundays and Wednesdays!
As someone said earlier…these are inde fundies KJO 1611 AVers…proceed with caution and understand not all Baptist have checked their reasoning abilities at the door. I live in the deep deep south. They are on the street corners (in good weather) screaming at you! Everyone but them are going to hell.😦
ANY group like that, and unfortunately every church/denomination has them, usually do not have a clue as to what it means to be in the body of Christ.🤷

She is a Baptist:shrug:

She has a statue of David…I have never heard of that. What is it for? The purpose? If having a statue of the Holy Mother is forbidden, so is David.

I bet her knee jerks alot:p

Sorry, I am not trying to be disrespectfull of your MIL. I am a Baptist and well…can’t explain that one…

I just read the most amazing book and it’s right on topic with this thread. It’s called Rome Sweet Home by Scott and Kimberly Hahn. Husband and wife team who were Presbyterians and he became a minister … he was staunch anti-Catholic and planned to spend his entire ministry saving us from ourselves … even though he knew nothing about the Church (except it was evil). Anyhow, while in seminary he was studying the bible and discovered that the scripture didn’t say what he’d always been taught and he came up with all these “new” ideas, which he preached to his flock …and then someone pointed out that his beliefs were EXACTLY in line with the Catholic Church.

He and his wife fought really hard not to join the Church and begged all their very learned Protestant friends to help them debate against what he had found … finally they gave up because they discovered that there just was no arguing with it.

Amazing book! I know far more about my faith now and how it differs from Protestants, as well as what their main complaints about the Church are.

That’s a good one. 👍 I haven’t gotten to read the whole thing but I’ve heard his testimony on CD. When I started reading it I was not “ready” to be reading it and easily set it aside. 😊

For Baptists, though, I usually recommend Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic by Davie Currie, and Crossing the Tiber by Stephen Ray. Both of these men were fundamental Baptist and became Catholic. The type of Baptists a lot of us are dealing with don’t think Presbyterians are really saved. :rolleyes:
