Is there a way to show respect to the Saints and Mother Mary after we speak there name? Much in the same way Muslims do for their prophets?

Hi Erik,

I usually just address them with the title of “Saint” in front of their name, when praying to them. I have not been aware of any other way of addressing them, when praying to them.

Same goes with me, although in private prayer I often feel moved to prefix ‘Saint’ with something like ‘Dear’ or ‘Loving’.

I also address them as Saint “_”.
But for the mother of God, I address here as the Most Holy Theotokos.

Thank you for your replies. But I was meaning after we say their name. Like how Muslims say the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Is there such a thing for the Saints?

Thank you. But that I understand. I’m meaning for after their name is said, i.e., “Saint Pio, ______, pray for us.” Like can we say anything like, peace be upon him, peace be with him, etc. etc…

Nothing that one must say, but if you read different litanies you might find phrases that laud an attribute of the saint, although St. Joseph is the only one that comes to mind. Here is a litany to saint Joseph alone, so you can see what I mean.

Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, hear us.
Christ, graciously hear us.
God the Father of Heaven,
Have mercy on us.
God the Son, Redeemer of the world,
Have mercy on us.
God the Holy Spirit,
Have mercy on us.
Holy Trinity, One God,
Have mercy on us.
Holy Mary, pray for us .
Saint Joseph, pray for us.
**Illustrious son of David, etc.
Light of the patriarchs,
Spouse of the Mother of God,
Chaste guardian of the Virgin,
Foster-father of the Son of God,
Watchful defender of Christ,
Head of the Holy Family,
Joseph most just,
Joseph most chaste,
Joseph most prudent,
Joseph most valiant,
Joseph most obedient,
Joseph most faithful,
Mirror of patience,
Lover of poverty,
Model of workmen ,
Glory of domestic life,
Guardian of virgins,
Pillar of families,
Solace of the afflicted,
Hope of the sick,
Patron of the dying,
Terror of demons,
Protector of Holy Church,
**
Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world,
Spare us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world,
Graciously hear us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world,
Have mercy on us.

V. He made him the lord of His household,
R. And prince over all His possessions.

Let Us Pray.

Like the previous poster, there can be extra things said after their names, but that is on an individual basis on whether it applies to the saint. Even then, this is not the norm in the Christian tradition it seems.
Even in the case of the litanies, they’re not so much an extra part to how they are addressed but added descriptions how the saints are.
