All we have at our parish are pew cards that contain the people’s responses. Since we don’t have missals, how do we even know that the priest is using the all of new translation or not?
It’s somewhat all or nothing. Either the gold-edged Missal up in the Sanctuary is the old one or the new one. It would be a bit difficult to mix and match. All we have at our parish are pew cards that contain the people’s responses. Well, this past Sunday, we used part of the old and part of the new. He even announced that it would be that way. He said we will be introduced to the new translation little by little. There has been NO preparation for us, except for the priest making negative remarks for a couple of months about the then “upcoming” new translation. He held it in derision and continually made fun of it. Very, very disheartening. It’s somewhat all or nothing. Either the gold-edged Missal up in the Sanctuary is the old one or the new one. I would encourage you not to be overly suspicious of your priest. Cut him some slack.![]()
get an annual Sunday missal, or check the missalette, most have the priest’s prayers, Eucharistic prayers etc. as well as the people’s responses. All we have at our parish are pew cards that contain the people’s responses. noAnother question: Is it even licit anymore to use the old translation?
I would think, if a priest is being stubborn and refuses to use the new translation, he’s at least being disobedient. If there’s any sin involved, it’s on his part, not on the part of the congregation, since they’re pretty much the equivalent of an innocent bystander.Another question: Is it even licit anymore to use the old translation?
If you are uncertain, just get a missal and follow along. All we have at our parish are pew cards that contain the people’s responses. Since we don’t have missals, how do we even know that the priest is using the all of new translation or not?
Most of it’s online.I’ll try to get a Missal as soon as I can.
thanks!!!most of it’s online.
Not in the U.S. The old translation has been abrogated.Another question: Is it even licit anymore to use the old translation?
It is ilicit to use the old translation, but it does not make the mass invalid.Another question: Is it even licit anymore to use the old translation?
This is something I’ve been wondering for a while. Good to know.It is ilicit to use the old translation, but it does not make the mass invalid.
(just so that we are clear)
No, as of Saturday evening, November 26th, this year. None of the old translation should be used. We should all be using the new one.Another question: Is it even licit anymore to use the old translation?
Not that it makes any difference if you want to attend the current liturgy. The 1970 missal should have been retired now. We should all be using the new one. This is something I’ve been wondering for a while. Good to know.
