How do we know the priest ia actually using all of the new translation?

If you have an old missal, you can just buy a set of cards with the new responses and read them off at the appropriate times. The readings themselves (1st reading, epistle and Gospel,) haven’t changed. Most people just repeat the antiphons as given by the lector or celebrant, anyways. Or you can bite the bullet if you really want to check up on what the priest is saying and buy a new missal. I was able to get a new Daily Roman Missal and like it tremendously.

I think one thing that makes the Priest start and stop is that there is much of what he is saying that remained the same. If it were all new it might be easier for them just to read. That’s not the case. In a sentence that would have been found in the old translation, there may be only be a word or two that was changed, so it does sound familiar to you.
The change in the physical size of the Roman Missal is easily discerned, it looks to be at least an inch thicker than the old Sacramentary.

This is a very good point, thanks for bringing that up. Assuming good intention in others, even when they mess up, is a very Catholic thing to do. Its a hallmark of Dominican spirituality and one of the great many things that I enjoy about it. That’s not to say I am good at it, but it is certainly something to strive for.

Several priests I know have said that this week has been difficult and to please be patient with them. The Missal is laid out a bit differently than the Sacramentary and even they, like many of the folks in the pews, fall back to the old translation which is so ingrained in them. I have seen all our priests this week mess up in a few places. I wouldn’t start writing letter to the bishop unless you know for sure that they are using the old Sacramentary. Give them a break. One priest told me he is so nervous saying Mass this week, as if it were his first time.

Good question. I guess we can’t know. Especially when he’s doing the prayers over the Eucharist that we can’t hear over the music.

In the Ordinary Form, outside of the Memorial Acclamation, there should be no instruments playing or voices other than the priest whatsoever.

I must not have been clear. We DID use the old translation of the peoples’ responses except for “And with your Spirit”. For instance, we used the old “Jesus, Lamb of God…You take away the sins of the world”, and the old “Holy, Holy”. He said this was because the cantor couldn’t make it, and he wasn’t familiar with the new music. So, instead of just having us recite the new parts without the music that goes with it, we used the old translation w/ piano accompaniment.

What really saddens me is that we have had ZERO preparation for the new translation except for hostile words and poking fun at the idea now and then. I will keep you all informed about how this all develops. Hopefully, he will eventually acquiesce.

How do you know that? It said 2012 American edition . Why would they sell me last year’s (without letting me know that?) It was $1.96, I think.
 
I suggest getting some of the cheaper missals to follow the novus order mass, because in ten or twenty years the Vatican will change the mass and the faith again. Maybe we can get a heads by celebrating martin luther’s birthday as a saint’s day or we could celebrate christmas with passages from the koran. 😃
