In a debate I had with an agnostic person, one of his main arguments was, “How do we know which parts of the Bible to take literally or figuratively?”
I just was at a loss of words after not knowing the answer. But here’s the question: How do we know what to take figuratively or literally in the Bible? Is there an official Church document stating what is to be taken literally or not? Are we just supposed to use applied knowledge in accordance to Church teaching? I would really appreciate your answers. Thank you!
