My Confirmation is December 4, and I want to hear some ideas for a confirmation name, and why you picked that name. I am thinking of taking Faustina. Is there usualy something behind the name you choose? Are you supposed to be able to relate to that saint?

Usually it’s a combination of a Saint that you admire and a name that appeals to you. There are so many Saints to choose from. Have fun

My confirmation name is Ann.

has a great saint index, that has a brief bio of each saint, and what they are patrons of. I agree with shannin on the chosing of confirmation name.

Mine is Therese, Little Flower

God Bless!

When I was preparing for Easter Vigil, my RCIA team kept saying that " A Saint will choose you…"

We were getting close, and I was searching and reading (this was back in the stone ages, before the internet). One evening, I decided to go to a secular book store, ended up in the Religions section and my eye was caught by the Oxford Dictionary of Saints. I picked it up to give it a look, and opened at random - on that page was listed “St. John the Dwarf”. After picking my jaw up from the floor, I read the entry and bought the book –

A brief internet bit about this Saint:

John the Dwarf was a native of Basta in Lower Egypt. He retired to the desert of Skeet when a young man and became a disciple of St. Poemen. John lived a life of obedience, humility, and austerity the rest of his days. When he arrived at Skeet he is reputed to have watered a stick stuck in the ground unquestioningly when his spiritual director ordered him to do so; in the third year of his ministrations, it bore fruit. He left Skeet to escape marauder Berbers and settled on Mount Quolzum, where he died. His feast day is October 17th.

The story of obedience and humility struck me – that is what I need a Saint to teach me. Many times, I keep a stick in a pot of soil on my desk to remind me of this…

Also, I have dwarfism! Yup, my Saint found me.

I’m a little bit of a gossip, so I chose Gabriella (for Archangel Gabriel) because he is the bringer of news.

I used Louis, my “oldest” brother who died when only a day old. My brother used “Thomas” because he had a lot of doubts.

When I was making my confirmation way back in the '70’s it was still required that you pick a saint’s name. Times have changed. My own children who have recently made their confirmation were told that any name is appropriate. You can even use your own name. My friends son used his father’s name which is Scott. I don’t know any saint Scott except for maybe him;) .

I picked the name Mary. My sister, Mary Alice, was my sponser. I wanted to honor her, my mother whose name is Mary and, of course, the Virgin Mary.

My daughter who made her confirmation last year picked Saint Joan of Ark which did not surprise me. My daughter admires strong women and I think she sees Saint Joan in this light and relates to her warrior spirit.

Good luck in picking a name. I like Faustina, too.👍

I had to pick a saint’s name as a confirmation name. Then, I had to write a report about him.

There was an article about St. Martin de Porres in the newspaper. So, I picked Martin as my confirmation name. And I wrote a report about St. Martin de Porres using the information in the newspaper.

I’ve been leaning towards John Francis Augustine or John Francis Thaddeus Augustine (after 1-the Evangelist and my father, grandfather, step-father, and one of the names of Fulton J. Sheen, among others, 2-after Francis of Assisi and Francis de Sales, 3-after Jude Thaddeus, and 4-after Augustine of Hippo), but many people have laughed and said that’s excessive and I should just pick one.

Usually you pick the name of a saint you particularly like or the name of your sponsor…especially since we tend to or should pick someone we look up to…of course a good Catholic. I like Faustina,
I wish I knew about her when I made mine over forty years ago…she is very special. Bless You, Annunciata:)

My confirmation name is Jerome, after St. Jerome…and Today’s his feast day!!

My Confirmation name is Thomas for St. Thomas the Apostle. Thomas means “twin” and I am a twin. St. Thomas also had doubted Jesus’s resurrection, but when he saw Jesus he had great faith. So I hope that when I may fall in doubt, that I have the faith like St. Thomas.

Also, from what I can remember from Edwin, my father became a Catholic when he was 77 year old and took Edward as his confirmation name. I thought it was for his father;s name, but Edwin told me it was because of me.

I chose Ignatius. I was a student at a Jesuit High School and was taught to respect and honor the memory of the orders founder. Course, today he wouldn’t be too happy about the direction his order is taking. I like to think I also chose it in honor of Ignatius of Antioch, the great Church Father and a representation of Apostolic Succession.

I taught confirmation for two years. I presented the lives of certain saints to give examples. You choose a saint you feel connected with or whose protection and prayers you would invoke.

I chose Marie. It is my mom’s confirmation name, my godmother’s middle name, and I believe my grandmother’s middle name (not too sure on that though - I can’t remember right now). So for me, it was choosing a name based on the strong women in my family whom I admired. And my godmother was my sponsor, so it made it that much more special.

My daughter is named Jeanne so she picked Bl. Jeanne Jugan (founded Little Sisters of the Poor). —KCT

Well, I’m a unique person. As a guy, I chose a female. She isn’t even a Saint yet!

Her name is Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, an Iroquois Maiden. Considered the most beautiful flower of the New World. Her refusal for marriage, and having to run away from her own village to be with God in fasting, in prayer, and in the Eucharist is brave of her.

Her family died from an epidemic that she survived, and learned the Hail Mary from her Algonquin mother, and Kateri became blind and her face disfigured. She lived the most of her life then with her uncle who was the chief.

Died at 24, and minutes after, her face had the most distilled peace and it became beautiful and refreshed.

I even made a Kateri Indian Rosary (Chaplet of Bl. Kateri Tekakwitha)! (The turtle was that she was part of the turtle clan). Nothing too elaborate; just simple ;).

The Chaplet is great!

For three generations we have chosen Theresa.
I’m already talking it up with my girls.

I chose Padre Pio. It was a study of his life that led me on a journey home into the church. As a side note I have fallen in love with the confessional.

Thank you! I love Kateri, and she really does help me whenever I need her. 🙂 My old RCIA group had the sponsors with Mary’s, Joseph’s, and Theresa’s, lol. Hope you continue with the tradition!

Yo Kramerbaby, if you ever choose your Confirmation name, make sure you tell us who, and why! I call myself Kevyn Scott Kateri Calanza Bello now, since I consider the Confirmation name important…
