I guess my title says it all for me. I have had a really hard time lately trying to figure out what it is that God wants me to do with my life. Any suggestions?? I really want to live according to his plan for me, but don’t know where to start or even what it is!!

God Bless!

  1. Prayer
  2. Trust
  3. Spiritual Direction
  4. More Prayer
  5. Patience
(It takes all of these things in discernment, there is no different level of importance for them, as they are all equally important.)]
If you are wondering how to find a spiritual director, pray. God will lead you in the right direction to find a spiritual director. If it is His will, it will be done.
If you earnestly seek the face of Christ, He will guide you. Work on those 5 things, frequent the sacraments, and follow the commandments. In all things you do: Love. This is the ultimate purpose for your life: to Love. It is only a matter of God showing you how to Love.
There is no fast food delivery of your vocation. You are in for the long haul!
God Bless,

Justin

I’ll add prayer one more time (can never have too much of that!). Another way (which just sounds too simple) is, what do you feel like doing in your life. Can you simply not see yourself any other way than being married? Or, maybe, have you always felt a deep devotion to God, and have considered religious life. Or maybe you have the resources and wish to remain single, so that you can go anywhere and serve anyone on a moment’s notice. Often times the direction we feel most excited about can be a sign of our calling. Combined with prayer and seeking spiritual direction from those you trust, your wish for your own life can help cement your conviction about your vocation. Just be sure you always remain open to God’s will above your own.

Jamie, God’s will manifest in our life daily. What is infront of you work on it. Example in my life, I am a wife no child, and I am working everyday. I pledge my day to God and offer my day to , and like you I wanna do God’s will. And part of "doing God’s will in my life I felt the call to go to the Mass every morning before going to work. In which I never ever did in my life ever before, I persevere on it because its hard to get up early… but the desire is so strong. Then I have this strong “urges” to read the POEM OF MAN-GOD book, I am already on the 5th Volume, and I also prefer to silence now than just watching tv after work… I used to resist this feeling… but I know now this is God’s will for me, I do not know what He is preparing me for though, but I work on what is being place infront of me…
Yesterday, I was so tired coming home from work, but I felt the need to clean the messy house, and at 9:15pm when my husband got home the house is so clean already, toilet clean, sink is clean of dirty dishes and I have read about 2 chapter of my book and not watching tv… it feels soooo good. My husband was so happy and appreciated my initiative of cleaning, in spite of my body aches and full day of work… And I can reflect now that God doesn’t really require us too much beyond our capability, but listening to His queue is an order of things and it is beautiful…

God’s will is not hard to descern really. Just wake up, praise God for the good night sleep and do your normal day. Do it with joy (this prayer already). Even if your knees and back is aching…(remember St Terese the little flower). If you are called to do something big (remember Mother Teresa of Calcutta), the answer is always infront of you. You just have to decide to do it. If you dont do it, it is up to you, God will not get mad at you. If you ask His guidance for decision making, He will place it in your heart and you will always leaning to that BEST answer… sometimes even if the first, second and the third try failed… it is in the trying that you also building muscles with your wings. Trust whole heartedly with what you are doing because it is hard to please God without TRUST.

If you are called to serve in the Army, religious or even in your community, serve will. Just remember that by serving others you serve God.

Thanks,

There is a lot of good advice here.

It took me a long time to discern my profession. I think not missing Mass was a big help.

I think also spending time in summer jobs in various professions can help to meet and see people working a particular profession. This helped me also. I came to full realization of what I wanted to do when I was able to talk to a person in my profession. Then I new in minutes.

Studying hard to keep your options open is also a good idea. Along the way, I often felt directed only to the “next step”. I did not see the end. Keeping my options open with hard work and avoiding bad habits (the partying crowd) allowed me to keep moving in the right direction.

I wholeheartedly agree. What’s exciting to you? What feels natural to you? What would challenge and fulfill you? These will point to your vocation.

I’m still discerning, too.

I’m wondering in what context? I had a quick look at some of your other posts, or bits of them. I gather you’re a married mother living in Blair Nebraska, a small town north of Omaha (wherever that is - I’m Australian, not American), and that you like the small town atmosphere.

Your husband joined the church after your first child was born, but hasn’t persevered (I admit I only read the start of your post on this topic).

So I’m wondering if it your search about God’s will for your life has specifically to do with your marriage or family situation, church involvement or whatever. I don’t think you’d mean religious vocation, due to your married state, which is a vocation in itself.

Your first priority would be to your family. However if you’re seeking an answer to a specific question, we’re not mind readers. You’ll need to tell us exactly what you’re thinking about before we can offer much other than general advice.

I think in your case it’s in regard to some specific issue that you’re seeking clarification? If so, what is it?
