How do you feel about atheists?

How do you feel about atheists? Do you pity them? Hope for them? Argue with them? Pray for them?
 
I have many friends and family member who are atheists.
How do I feel about them? Simple. I love them. They are great people.
 
Atheists are generally good people. I almost always enjoy their company.
 
Pretty good so far.

But what about when they cause “trouble” in your life? For instance, insulting your faith or even the idea of God existing?
 
I have not really had any problem with atheists in person. Some snot nosed atheist who thinks they are so smart and decides to attack my faith online is way different from if a atheist attacked my faith to my face in person. Even Christians get more bold while they can hide behind a computer screen.

I give them the same respect and human dignity due to every person created in the image of God. And I do at times wish some Christians would be a little more thoughtful that when they act a certain way (ATHEISTS!! REPENT NOW!!!) they are actually making us look crazy and perhaps turning atheists further away from God.
 
I have friends who are atheists. I love them and hope they will find their way to Our Lord in His good time.
I wouldn’t assume that because one atheist insulted my faith that all were rude. It would hurt my feelings but the best way to look at it is s/he was probably having a bad day.
Perhaps, in time, reflecting upon the behavior, that person might be slowly drawn towards Our Lord.

Most atheist who I’ve met believe abortion should be legal. There are a few pro-life atheists. But on the assumption that 99% of atheists are pro-choice, I don’t see how we can call someone a good person if they believe it should be legal to torture and kill babies. That would be like saying the Nazis were generally good people.
 
I feel sad for atheists, they don’t have enough holidays!

My family and friends who happen to be atheists never insult me or the idea of God. They never cause trouble. It’s all good and they are good people.

Perhaps you are thinking of militant atheists? I don’t personally know any militant ones.

I believe even the Holy Father has mention he knows several atheists and that they are good people.

No reason to stereotype and label people.

I say to myself, “There but for the grace of God go I,” for I cannot explain why the Faith took hold with me, and not with those whom I love who do not believe.
 
To be frank I have been feeling bad about atheists recently. Considering all secularization they are causing and making the faith private matter from the public one.

Sometimes I think they have no soul. Sometimes I think they do not deserve to live in the land,cultivated by generations of believers before. I know I am wrong… 😦

What I am pretty sure of, nevertheless, is that atheists do not come out of nowhere . They exist because their parents or parents of their parents did not transfer faith to them .

In general, like in any other dispute, the suggestion is that you treat your opponent as you would wish to be treated…and the rest should simply fall into place…

:sad_yes: Atheistic persons are by nature foolish. We shouldn’t respect those who disrespect God.

Atheistic persons of course deserve the natural dignity of being human, such as food, clothing, and companionship but beyond such needs, I don’t pity them.

I’m not attempting to be rude. I’m attempting to be honest. Dmar198 is right. Anyone who supports objectively destructive practices are of the Devil, regardless of their seemingly “loving” or “good” persona.

Our unwillingness to fight the Devil and his minions is the main factor behind why Satan is gaining so much ground, with the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage being a result of such conquest. My own country, the Philippines, has also fallen under dark rulers precisely because of our passiveness; our unwillingness to fight the homosexual agenda that has now became a part of our culture. If you look at my country’s television programs, you’ll find an openly homosexual person in every cast. :mad:

We have to be willing to fight the enemy. Some posters on this thread seem more willing to be passive. Some of us seem willing to let Atheists gradually progress into Hell.

I understand the cliched arguments about us having to love the enemy and whatnot, but isn’t justice also a part of love? Praying for souls isn’t enough. We are physical creatures, are we not? Within our abilities, it should be natural for us to use physical deeds as ways of bringing others closer to divine truths. Prayer must be matched with action.

Actively fighting enemies of God is far from unloving. :knight1:
 
Oddly enough, true atheists are not a problem for me. Fallen any thing - Catholic, Russian Orthodox, whatever has proven to be more antagonistic to our efforts.

I find atheists who are the humanist type (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humanism) are far more kind and compassionate than most believers (Libertarian skeptics/atheists are not so compassionate).

I don’t think God particularly cares whether you believe him in or not, it is how you treat your fellow human beings (particularly the least of these Matthew, 25 31-46) what counts.

The chances of a kind atheist being ‘saved’ are much higher than a mean believer. So there is no need to pray for them in particular.

Only God can judge the heart. You and I and others are not equiped with that kind of ability.

The Lord, in His parable of the Pharisee and the Publican is a good reminder.
 
Examine my post in its entirety, and you’ll understand the context behind the quoted statement. Focus on the forest more than its individual trees.
