**How do you guys come up with this stuff? **

“Christians (not Catholics) put their faith in Jesus instead of … Mary, or the Pope, or Saints”?

***Implying that Catholics do not put Jesus Christ first….wrong, Jesus Christ is the focal point of Catholicism! ***

Or,

“Catholics worship Mary”

***Wrong, all worship is for God Alone! ***

*Or *

“Catholics pray to statues”

Wrong again!

Or,

“Catholics are not Christians”

Wrong again, Catholicism was the first Christian religion and is the only fully, true Christian religion today.

Or,

*“The Bible says not to call anyone “father” and Catholics Call their priests fathers” *

Here is another misconception; the Bible verse mention, is referring to one God as Father, not that we are forbidden to call anyone else “father”, if that were the case….you would have a mother and a what? Using this crazy argument, one could not even call their biological father, “father”.

Or,

“We are all saved by grace alone and not by are works”

Again …wrong and anti-Biblical.

Or,

“Once saved, always saved” or “Guaranteed Salvation”

***Wrong and anti-Biblical… ***

Or,

“Catholics pray to “dead people” and we are told in the bible not to do this”

Wrong and anti-biblical.

Or,

“Jesus is only symbolically present in the Eucharist”

Wrong and anti-biblical.

Or,

‘The Christian Church is a body of believers, everyone who believes in Jesus, is a member of the Christian Church”

Wrong and anti-biblical.

Or,

“All I need is the Bible” or Bible alone.

Wrong and anti-biblical.

Or,

Jesus had other (biological) brothers and sisters, so Mary did not remain a virgin.

Wrong and anti-biblical.

And so and so and so on……

I can go on but my point here is that many non-Catholic Christians and their denominations are not as close in beliefs to Catholicism, as others may think they are…including some Catholics here.

Catholicism is under attack!

Some here wrongly assume that being “nice” to one another is more important than telling the truth to one another. Telling the truth is more important and as a Catholic, defending your Catholic faith is more important than whether or not people from another denomination “likes you”…

There are some, who are going to be smiling and happy and holding hands and they are going to skip together, right into Hell.

Be careful people!

We should be polite and respectful, loving and forgiving….but we need to tell the truth!

Your thoughts?

“Christians (not Catholics) put their faith in Jesus instead of … Mary, or the Pope, or Saints”?
They do devote their whole time to Jesus.

While Catholics divide their time between Jesus and Mary/saints. Sometimes Mary get a lot more attention than Jesus, like when praying the Rosary.

Or do you know?**

Jimmy,

Not all non-Catholics believe all the things you mentioned…

I’m not Catholic, and in no way believe Catholics worship the Pope, Mary or anyone/anything else, other than God.

Catholocism is absolutely beautiful, and I agree with 98% of it (if I agreed with 100%, I’d obviously be Catholic 🙂 )

Just to touch on some of the other issues you mentioned in your post…

-I’m not sure how I feel about OSAS…I see both sides of the argument…and I’m still trying to figure this out for myself

-Catholics ARE Christians (so am I, even though I’m not Catholic)

-My belief, works are very important. I believe in salvation through faith, and from your faith comes the works. Again, even though I’m no 100% in agreement with Catholics on this one, I see nothing wrong with the Catholic belief on this issue…

Whoever says these things you mentioned is very mislead in my opinion, and I hate to see the Christians(Catholic and non-Catholic) arguing over things like these. We’re all Christians, and I think these discussions should be with folks who don’t follow Christ instead of other Christians.

to which guys are you referring?
if you want to respond to a specific statement by a non-Catholic, cite the source, then discuss their issue. making blanket accusations against an amorphous unidentified group of people is hardly worthwhile apologetics technique.

Im really more concerned of what people actually do. When I was a Catholic I was more fond of Mary than Jesus or God.

Nine ways of being an accessory to another’s sin.
1. By Counsel
2. By Command
3. By Consent
4. By Concealment
5. By Defense of Evil Done
6. By Partaking
7. By Provocation
8. By Praise
9. By Silence

Here is another thing that is important for Catholics to remember; the “Nine ways of being an accessory to another’s sin”… is a Catholic belief! Yet, whenever I post this, I get no response from Catholics…maybe this is because numbers 3, 8 and 9 don’t allow us to be as “nice” to non-Catholic Christians as we think we ought to be.

The most important thing, when discussing Christianity… is telling the truth!

One can tell the truth and be “nice” but some people don’t want to hear the truth, so they might say that you are not being “nice” to shut you up but you are still required to tell the truth.

Tell the truth and always keep in mind, the “Nine ways of being an accessory to another’s sin".

Hello puzzleannie,

Thank you for helping to prove my point here.

Please tell me what remarks of mine are not truthful.

I always use the words “some” any “many” but never “all” because I know that there exists so many different “Christian” beliefs here at CAF. Because there are so many different beliefs here, it is necessary some times that remarks are of a general nature.

I also write in a way that will “spark” a discussion. I don’t usually take the “safe” approach in posting here and I do not start threads, like some of “word chain” games here, not saying that there is anything wrong with “word games” but because of not playing it “safe, I take more heat for it, including heat from other Catholics. That’s ok though, because it is more important for me to be honest and to defend my Catholic faith, than it is to “have friends”. I hope you can understand this.

Please be nice to me… 🙂

Thank you for your post and God bless you!

Peace 🙂

I am sorry that you did not understand your own Catholic faith, “when you were a Catholic”.

AgnosTheist, If you were a Catholic, you are still a Catholic, although, based on reading many of your posts here, you don’t act very Catholic. I hope and pray that you grow in your understanding of your Catholic faith and come home.

Jesus Loves You!

Jesus Loves You!

Jimmy,
You have heard me talk about some of the things you mention (Catholics worship Mary, statues, etc) so you know how I feel about that stuff. I just will comment on a couple of others.
“The Bible says not to call anyone “father” and Catholics Call their priests fathers”
I grew up in a town with large Catholic and Lutheran populations.
My dad, a Lutheran pastor, always wore his clerical collar. More than once when I was a child we would be walking together, and others would walk by, often kids, and say, “Hello Father”. He always said hello back, and never took offense. Clearly, the title didn’t bother him.
‘The Christian Church is a body of believers, everyone who believes in Jesus, is a member of the Christian Church”
The Catholic Church says that by viture of my baptism, I am a member of the Church, though a separated brother in Christ, or words to that effect.
Catholicism is under attack!
By far the greatest attack on the Catholic Church is by secularists and radical Muslims, not fellow Christians. And all of us better realize that, in spite of our differences, we better learn to get along. As the saying goes, “we must hang together, or we will certainly hang separately.”

True, but “getting along” doesn’t mean, compromising our faith…And I see a lot of that going on here…

Peace 🙂

“We are all saved by grace alone and not by are works”

Again …wrong and anti-Biblical.
I thought this was the Church’s posistion (that we are saved by God’s grace), but that humans can reject this grace.

do you have a source for your position?

peace,

Jimmy,

I don’t think faith has to be compromised in order to find common ground. The Holy Spirit can do that.

Jon

Not true…Everything in Catholicism points us towards Jesus, including the Rosary, which is a prayer of the Gospels. The primary focus in Catholicism, is on Jesus.

Where do you get you information about Catholicism? Because you information is wrong. I am so sorry that when you “were” a Catholic you didn’t understand your own Catholic faith but it is never too late to learn.

Peace 🙂

True, as long as we (Catholics) are not affraid to tell the truth as well…many here are…

Peace 🙂

I honestly don’t know how you could focus any more on Christ than when you meditate on His birth, ministry, death, and ressurection as when you say the Rosary.

Mary and the Saints ALWAYS point you to Christ. Thank God for the communion of Saints.

As long as we all are willing to speak the truth, listen to each other, pray the Holy Spirit help us. You are right, I don’t want you to tell me what I want to hear about Catholicism. Tell me what you believe. I’ll tell you what I believe. Unity will come from being honest, the the HS guiding us.
