Hi Brothers and Sisters,

Obviously, I am aware that in order to deal with sin we must go to confession, however, how do you guys deal with sin in general in your lives? How do you guys deal with the fact that it is there (if it is?) or in waiting for it to dissappear? etc. I am writing this because I have been dissappointed over the past couple year or month due to sin, not neglecting the beauty of the sacrament but just wanting to be better myself, i am scared for my salvation, so anyways, how do you deal with sin?

I daily acknowledge the reality that I am one of those who “have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” I also daily put my trust in the immensity of the Love and Mercy of God. I cannot go to confession daily and I cannot so worry about my salvation that I fall into despair every time I fall into sin. When I sin I ask God’s forgiveness as soon as I realize what I have done and, if the sin is mortal, resolve to go to Confession as soon as I can, which is usually within the week.

Thomas Aquinas’s sister, I believe it was, asked him, “How do I become a saint?”

Thomas said, “Will it !”

We have to get off our butts and really focus actively on living a closer life in and with Christ.

The general and particular examen are perhaps the best ways to improve by God’s Grace in living a life closer to God and helping us to loose ourselves from sin, both generally and specific sins.

I need to start with the particular examen myself in spite of Lent being over essentially.

These examens come from St. Iganatius Loyola.

After a while you might come to realise that you have a greater tendency towards some sins, & less to others. When u know this, you can do your best to work on the ones you have the greatest tendency towards. How u do this, is up to you & a confessor who knows you. You might be able to work out why you have a greater tendency towards those sins. One of the hardest things is to first find a confessor you feel comfortable enough with to reveal your worst ones, even if they happen repeatedly.

I have certain sins that I fight against on a daily basis. What I do is pray. I talk to God as soon as temptation hits me. I ask Him for strength to overcome it, and it helps me in two ways. First, He gives me strength, and, as long as I actively want to avoid that sin, I know I’m not fighting it alone. Second, it puts Him in the front of my mind. The feeling of guilt that I get from even thinking of committing that sin while God is in my thoughts helps me to feel disgusted by the sin. It’s not 100% effective, but it’s more effective now than it was a few months ago, which was more effective than it was 6 months ago. I try to be better than I was yesterday, and I know if I can successfully do that, I’m on a good path. I also know that by myself, I can’t be better than I was yesterday. I need His help, and He helps me… Pray pray pray!!! While you’re at it, please pray for all of us sinners too. I’ll be praying for you.

I have always found it difficult to forgive oneself for stupid things we do,
No matter whether or not confession had taken place,
Not until one has self reflection, and Self Analysed as to actually what made you make wrong life choices, no one forced you to do something wrong, you can make no real excuse , not until you discover what your personal weakness is ,
Once you understand what you weakness is , that is then when you can forgive yourself, then it’s up to you to figure out how to handle that single or collection of weaknesses

Hi Brothers and Sisters,

Good Morning.
I don’t deal with it very well many times…😊…
How do you guys deal with the fact that it is there (if it is?)
Well Facts are facts - you just accept them…🤷
or in waiting for it to disappear? etc.
here things get a bit trickier. As another said…we have to “get up off our butts and really focus actively…”. In other words, we cannot simply take a passive “waiting” attitude. Going to confession is a great way to obtain grace - but what we DO with that grace is the key.
Think of it like this. A person wants to get more fit. They buy all sorts of exercise equipment but then rarely if ever use any of it. Will they get more fit?
Obviously not.
Obtaining grace is like this. The grace is wonderful but that grace must be put to active use and the biggest thing that we need to overcome is our own lethargy.
I am writing this because I have been disappointed over the past couple year or month due to sin, not neglecting the beauty of the sacrament but just wanting to be better myself, i am scared for my salvation, so anyways, how do you deal with sin?
It is a struggle. The most basic steps to overcoming sin are twofold:
  1. Build up Love. Love of God above all else; Love of neighbor as yourself; and of course a proper love of self without which you cannot properly love others.
  2. Loathe the sin. Sin is something that is against Love. The more we Love someone, the less likely we are to do something to hurt them.
So the key and the core is to focus on and grow in Love.

Peace
James

That sums up my answer too. I’m not going to waste time in this wonderful life God has given me obsessing about sin.
