Out of the thousands of religions in the world, how do you know yours is right? I’m asking every individual that read this; how do you know you’re right on this?

Just a question. (:

define what u mean by “know” and “right”

This is the way I see it, everyone is entitled to believe their religion is the perfect, “right” religion, even if another may not see it to be true. But one can also think, all religions are the “right one”…and this is how I think or like to think…all the gods/goddesses of world in Heaven all kin to each other getting along well, with God almighty the creator at the top as the Father. 🙂 🙂

I do not know that I am “right” about a lot of things. My faith is based on my experience with the Eternal. In Christ I find One who answers my deepest needs to seek to understand God…“He is the express Image of God’s Person”…“He is an exact representation of the Godhead bodily.”

I don’t have to be “right” to experience the Love and Mercy of God in Christ…I just have to be receptive to the guiding of the Spirit and “mind the Light”.

It is not I who “saves” humanity…it is the work of God in Christ. It is the will of God that “all should come to repentance”.

“What does the Lord require of you…seek justice…show mercy and walk humbly with your God.”

I don’t have to have it “all right” as in this world we “see through a darkened glass…but then…face to face, WE WILL KNOW.”

There are no guarantees in this world…I walk with Him in faith that He is in control…He does all things well…and I will receive all things from His Hands with joy and graditude.

I don’t have to know everthing or be right about too much…only trust in His mercy and grace and listen to His Voice.

You got your smile backwards!

The reason I know that Catholicism is the most correct and true is that 1. I believe in a Being which created everything; 2. I believe that that Being showed Himself to many people over the generations, that He told them what would happen, and what He said would happen did happen; and 3. that Christ, His Son, did indeed come down as True Man and True God, and taught us, established a Church to preserve His teachings, and gave us the sacraments, and then died for us and was resurrected.

Because He taught the Apostles what they needed to know, and because He promised the help of the Holy Spirit in keeping the teachings true, I see that the teachings of the Catholic Church are the same as the teachings of God Himself.

Of all the religions of the world, Christianity is the only one which has good evidence for its claims; of all the forms of Christianity, the Catholic Church is the only one which can trace its foundation back to Christ.

Of all the religions of the world, Catholicism is the most coherent, the most comprehensive, the most logical, the most extensive in answering the questions of humanity. All the others fall in one place or another.

You are the first quaker ive ever talked to. Question is: would you reason hold up in court?

But there are things the catholic church teaches that are not in the bible.

Many religious people say “I know im right” when talking about their religion. Well how do you know for sure you’re right? There are thousands of other religions out there. How do you know YOURS is the 100% right one? You don’t. You can’t.

What is actual question? How do we know we are right about Christ? Or is there something specific you have in mind? Can’t pretend to know what your thinking.

All Christians here believe in God, should we start there or do you have a specific?

If you are looking for the “right” religion, look to Christ. Read about His life from the people who knew him and reported what they saw and heard, or those who were under unstruction from those who know Him. Jesus was God in flesh. How can the other religions be right if they go against His teachings, or deny what those who knew Jesus said about him?

In Christianity, God formed a relationship with man through the Old Testament and then the New Testamant with Jesus, his resurrection, and of course by sending the Holy Spirit to us. In other religions, man is searching for God.

If you want to know that Catholicism is the true Christianity, read early church writings, or go on a pilgrimage to the holy land. The churches are not Protestant, they are Catholic.

I am currently taking free online classes to learn about Catholicism.

About being “right”… there is some truth in every religion. But Catholicism is the fullness of the truth. 👍

We are all here because of a reason, I highly deny the idea that we came out of nothing. The Creator, made us all and everything, but why? If He has everything and is sufficient why He created us? There is no reason for Him to create us. If He created us is because He loves us. Unless a loving God created us there’s no other reason for a Supreme Being to create us. Because at creating us, He gave us without Him receiving nothing in exchange, this is love. He is all-knowing so He knew what was He doing at the time of our creation.

Having this information, if this God loves us, there must have been something He did for us to know (to be conscious) He was here with us, because He loves us and wants the best for us, and that it is by knowing Him, He will teach us all.

But then if He loves us so much according to this reasoning why do we not experience some kind of enforcement to do what He wants, if He “knows” the best for us. Because He is a just God too, and even though He loves us all, He gave us something that even though it Hurts Him to give it to us, He gave us this thing called free will. Because He knows it would be unjust to for us to do whatever He wants instead of us choosing.

So I have gathered all of this information, if God truly loves us from the start of our creation there must have been something He did for the first humans to know He is there. This something we call religion. The relationship we have with God, gods, goddesses, etc.

Now there is a problem there are many religions and all are different, and this God, gods, goddesses, only have one way of being not many. So with this I can say that every religion is not true.

Now there most be at least one religion which is true. I need to find a religion (relationship with God, gods, goddesses) that agrees with this thought. It needs a God which is just and love. Well it appears that the religion I am looking to is found in Judaism (which from it comes Christianity, I will explain Islam later). So in Judaism we find this God which only chooses a group of people (the sons of Israel) and of course any alien (foreigner) which circumsizes. This people are told they need to follow what this God told them to do, however they have free will. He gave them does commandments to do because “as a Father rebukes His sons because He loves them” , He also does. OK so I have found a religion with a God which is just and not only loves but He loves as if He was a father.

The problem is that this religion only says the sons of Israel, is this God racist or something? No. Thanks Him, He also gave messages, warnings and prophecies to His people. And in His prophecies He told there is going to come a day when every one is going to be able to worship me if they want. He also told how this was going to be possible, with the Messiah. He told that when the Messiah would come the Earth was going to be filled with His knowledge (not with Him). So today we live in a world, where everyone know at least some of the ten commandments. Has the Messiah come? Apparently. We have many candidates that could be the Messiah however who is the real one?

Well if one was really the Messiah, He must had to missions two accomplish, He needed to find a way of making our relationship with God perfect and reconcile the relationship with God, not only with Jews but with everyone. Secondly He need to be on par with what God gave the Jews long before, the Torah (teachings) and the Nevi’im (Prophets). Apparently this guy Yahshua (Jesus) was successful and He thought what the Torah and Nevi’im told (If you want to discuss this make another thread), He fulfilled eveything of what the Prophets told would happen. So I pick Fulfilled Judaism as my religion also known as Christianity. What other denominations teach about this is another thing is up to you to analyze them, which seem correct.

As for Islam, why not Islam?, well it is simple, it is not accord with the Torah and the Nevi’im sure in somethings they agree but not in everything, and this is a problem.

My second reason besides the reasoning it is because you will not find nowhere another religion like Christianity. It teaches things for even people who aren’t believers, most people don’t notice they learn things which come from Yahweh. Also a lot of its prophecies have been fulfilled (ex: the state of Israel, and how miraculously it hasn’t yet fall despite of how many times it has been in near destruction.), with many still waiting for them to be fulfilled. It teaches also that the miracles not only happen because God made them but also because of the faith you have.

Of course we have to assume a Creator exists, you can’t prove God, you got to have “blind faith” in God at least. Well the Psalms say: The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” Even some non-Christians at least believe they aren’t self-sufficient.

Until today the faith I have has rewarded me, I have peace in my heart. I’ve seen people change their lives completely because of God. The moment you start believing nothing is going to be the same, nothing in Earth has this. Is one of those things you have to honestly with all your heart try to understand, why people tell you it is great.

Yahweh bless.

See, this is what I mean. You are so convinced you are right but you are not showing me any evidence that catholicism is the RIGHT religion. What if you’re wrong? What if Islam is the right religion? Do you understand what I’m saying? You’re telling me that christianity is right because ‘the bible says so’. Well of course it does! The torah says its right too, so does the quaran.

You cannot PROVE 100% that christianity is the right religion. You could be practicing the wrong religion for all you know.

Re-read my post. I don’t get how you cannot understand what i’m saying.

Nobody ‘knows’ anything, BlueShadow, at least in regard to religion. What we all do have is deep belief, and we excercise faith in those things we believe. We all have reasons for believing whatever it is, reasons that are good enough for us.

The thing about religion is…the reasons for believing it are subjective, emotional, spiritual…not empirical. That said, I believe as I do because I studied it, thought about it, and prayed about it. I believe that I got an answer to that prayer (as I do to almost all my prayers, come to think of it, whether I like the answer or not). As a result, I believe.

When it comes right down to it, I think that most religious people say something similar. You can’t prove that God exists empirically…and if you can’t prove that God exists, how can you prove that one specific religion is the ‘true’ one? Nope…proof of deity–and proof of the Truth of how to worship deity, is found in a very different way.

The problem with atheists (most of 'em) is that they discount any other way of percieving Truth than through the scientific, empirical method. (shrug) by doing so, they are missing more than half of the wonders of the world.

IMO, of course.

Let me take a stab at it, just from the standpoint of Christianity and not necessarily Catholicism:

Although we can’t prove the existence of a supreme being, there’s also no proof of how all the matter in the universe came into being. Without any proof that matter can create itself or that it has “always been there” (as some atheists claim), the only reasonable explanation is a supreme being or a god. So, if you choose to go this route to explain where we came from, which god do you go to?

I choose the Christian God for the following reasons:

Fulfilled prophecies:

A virgin birth prophesied in Isaiah 7:14 and fulfilled 800 years later in Matthew 1:18 and 25.

In Matthew 3:3, John the Baptist declared that it was Jesus whom was spoken of in Isaiah 40:3

The piercing of Jesus’ side in Zechariah 12:10 fulfilled in John 19:34

The birth of a ruler of Israel to be born in Bethlehem prophesied in Micah 5:1-2 and fulfilled in Matthew 2:1

The crucifixion prophesied in Psalm 22 fulfilled in Luke 23:33, including the division of Jesus’ garments in John 19:23

Christianity is also the only religion who has it’s god taking the form of a human, walking among us and performing the miracles of changing water into wine (John 2:6-10), casting out demons (Matt. 8:28-32; Matt. 15:22-28), healing lepers (Matt. 8:3; Luke 17:14), healing the diseased (Matt. 4:23,24; Luke 6:17-19), curing the paralyzed (Mark 2:3-12), raising the dead (Matt. 9:25; John 11:43-44), making the blind see again (Matt. 9:27-30; John 9:1-7), curing deafness (Mark 7:32-35), feeding multitudes (Matt. 14:15-21; Matt. 15:32-38), walking on water (Matt. 8:26-27), and calming a storm (Matt. 8:22-27; Mark 4:39). And, as if that’s not enough, the guy gets unmercifully and publically crucified and, a couple days later, brings himself back to life (Luke 24:39; John 20:27).

Which of all the other religions offers all this? The reason why I steer away from Buddhism, Islam or a Flying Spaghetti Monster is because this total package cannot be matched by any other belief system. If you’re going to believe in a supreme being, the Christian God is the way to go.

Isn’t it possible that the writers of the New Testament read the Old Testament and just copied the prophecies?

Out of the thousands of religions in the world, how do you know yours is right? I’m asking every individual that read this; how do you know you’re right on this?
My religion is an Integral Religion built upon Christianity. And I strongly suspect you are asking the question wrongly.

It’s like asking me how I know that a banana tastes that way. Or, it’s like asking me what a banana tastes like.

Can you describe the taste of a banana? Do you know of a book that I could read, and then after reading it know what a banana tastes like? Are there logical arguments that prove the taste of a banana?

I think your answer will be “no,” but if that is so then how is possible for you to know the taste of a banana? Should I not, with logic on my side, assert that you are not in fact certain about the taste of a banana, because you have no mathematical-philosophical-whatever proof that you explain to me?

Probably not. You know what a banana tastes like because you have eaten a huge number of them. In other words, you experienced it, though you cannot describe it. You know it very well, but you cannot describe it. You are absolutely certain that the taste is real, and it’s even vibrantly alive in your memory, but you cannot describe the taste to me.

That’s my religion. Not only have I experienced “the banana,” so to speak, but so have a large number of people around me. They affirm me and I affirm them, and that’s how I know that my religion is true. The suggestion that my religion is wrong is as ridiculous to my ears as the suggestion that I don’t know what a banana tastes like.

Isn’t it possible that the writers of the New Testament read the Old Testament and just copied the prophecies?
It is possible that one person could win every lottery in every State in a single week – but so what.

The meaningful answer is, “No, they didn’t just copy something from an old book.”
