Never thought about it, honestly, don’t need to. I don’t know what God’s plans are for others. But I’m pretty sure His plans for me don’t involve pissing contests with Catholics, Lutherans, atheists or anyone else about what is 100% truth. Those arguments are the driest of dry wells.
They should put this on a banner at the top of the web page or something. Most profound thing I have seen yet. 🙂

But that statement basically says ‘I don’t care if Im right or wrong because I’ve convinced myself Im right.’

Not a very logical thing to do. At least I know that things could change in my life and my opinion could certainly change if i were to be proven wrong.

Your take on my position is wrong.

I could set up a persuasive argument one way or the other, that’s what I’m paid to do in real life. But – life really is too short to engage in pissing contests with other Christians, atheists, agnostics, non-Christians or or or. I don’t need to convince myself, and especially I don’t need to convince myself at the expense of tearing down someone else.

Neither you nor anyone else is going to talk me out of my faith, I’m probably not going to sway anyone out of theirs. If that ever happens, it will be because I’m not arguing, but being.

Moreover, I am not responsible for what you choose to believe or how you choose to worship.

How do I “know” I’m right? My conscience was formed by being born and raised RC, having formal secular and religious education by one of the Catholic teaching orders and a life time of experience.

Out of the thousands of religions in the world, how do you know yours is right? I’m asking every individual that read this; how do you know you’re right on this?

Just a question. (:
I don’t. I can tell you after much agony and switching I am finally content in my choice of Catholicism, now could that change? Maybe but I’m not going to worry about it anymore

agreed! Just trust God and practice your religion 😉 Getting tangled up the desire for proof is like socking the Tar Baby (Uncle Remus stories).

This carries with it the implication that Truth is not absolute, but relative. How very Kantian of you.

Tommy, you can infer whatever you want to, its a free country. But this is the kind of petty sniping that I’m happy to have left.

The nature of Truth is not “petty sniping”
You’re making the mistake in thinking that I care, or that anyone really cares what you believe. Which has been my point all along. Am I supposed to start quivering in fear that some anonymous smattering of electrons on the internet is calling me names? Am I supposed to have a bright light revelation that I’m going to hell because Tommy thinks me a kantian? What you really want is a pissing contest, right?

Get over it, Tommy.

It has nothing to do with debating others. Its going to a religion you believe to be true.

That ‘you believe’ to be true.

Not 100% proven fact, now is it?

Just keep yourself open to new possibilities. Thats how life is.

That has nothing to do with my main question.

I asked how you know you’re right out of the other thousands of religions there are.

I think the answer is “you don’t”. You just feel that you are right yourself. Its about convincing yourself and using faith to think you’re right. Doesn’t necessarily mean you ARE right, it means you think you are.

Like I said, to mix metaphors, pissing contests like this are dry wells.

Let me ask you something RD, What are you on this site for if you don’t care one way or another? Your not going to learn much here on C.A.F. with that attitude. 🤷
Maybe a little look see at early church history and read up on the early Church fathers will help open your scope of learning on the Church Christ gave us.
May the Holy Spirit guide you to all Truths.👍

Matt, I’ve forgotten more about early church history than you’re ever going to know.

Is this the place where I say “God bless” and make it sound like a curse?

The reason I believe in the Christian God is because when I pray to HIM, not mary, or any other saints, but GOD himself, I am ALWAYS answered with everything I ask him for. I always ask him for a certain thing to happen when something bad happens, and it always does.

One of them happened last night actually.

The reason that whenever i pray to God he answers me, shows me that I do NOT need to pray to Mary or saints and ask them to pray for me. I do not need to, if God answers my prayers everytime I go directly to him!

Its amazing how he always answers me with what I need.

Last night was another example of that.

I just need you to recognize that truth is not subjective, but is objective. I would like a modicum of charity. I would like much less sarcasm.

Sorry Tommy, we’d all like something or other. But life’s tough. I’d like less of your attempt at being condescending, but that’s just not in the cards either.
