Remember to say grace before you ietzsche cobbler.

On a side note, I take St Francis as my tietzsche; he says be kind to every living crietzsche.
I don’t mean to be prietzsche, but be careful lest one of them ietzsche!

Before we get kicked off for not being topical, I’ll observe that when I was in grade school we read a poem in which the poet played on the name “Beauchamp”, which seems to be pronounced “Beechum”. It was rhymed with, e.g., “reach 'em”, “teach 'em” and so on.

I have long been fascinated with the fact that the English version of the name “Taliaferro” rhymes with “Oliver”. But as to making a poem of that, it would seem difficult beyond managing. But as it is one of the great intellectual challenges of our time, someone will possibly manage to do it.

Something perhaps starting with “My kitten is a baliaferro. I certainly love aliaferro.”

Ok. Before the Moderator strikes, I’m outta here!

Aren’t most of their teachings anti-catholic? Why do so many people here support and agree with them?

Best philosophy thread ever. Quit spoiling the moment, Nino, dumbseeker.

If that’s okay wietzsche, I mean. 😛

i like nietzche, but hes not my favorite author. i adore rand tho, and think that objectivists (tho its hard to be a true objectivist) have an extremely good philosophy to live by, so long as you can get past the "no grey area) part. im not an objectivist) but its always struck me as a great way to be able to live, simply because theres right, and theres wrong, and you should strive to do right. its brilliant in its simplicity, to me.

The both have their strengths and weaknesses. Rand’s ideas have some merit, but it’s too idealistic to work in our modern world. Still, it was entertaining enough when I was in high school–made me feel superior when I first got into it. I think most people have a Rand phase. If you just want a sampling of Rand’s philosophy, read Anthem. I’ll always have a bit of a soft spot for Objectivism because I wrote my SAT essay about it and got a perfect score. The Op-eds on the Objectivist website can be very good too, but some get a little too “out there.”

Hmm, I don’t know Nietzche.

I have a problem with Rand. I cannot be objective about her. She was a jewish female, and after making the aquaintance of Anne Frank, I cannot be objective about jewish girls.
She came from Bolshevik Russia and hated Bolshevism.
My feelings regarding Tsar Nicholas and his amediate family are such that if they had spit on the ground and asked me to lick it up I would only balk at their having asked, enstead of ordered; they should have had sufficient faith in me to know that they could order me to do so.
So I cannot be objective about refuges from Bolshevism.
She was smart.
I cannot resist a smart girl.
She was a chain smoker, so am I.
In sum, I liked her PERSONALLY, a great deal.
She is never out of my thoughts.
The great hole in her system was that she didn’t believe in God, and that is another thing, my heart really bleeds for her on that account.
I think she meant well, but her essays are like a fine Wills St. Clair automobile , elegant and simple, but with an empty gas tank, and nowhere to go.
I really really really hope she went to purgatory, not the other place.
I hope she can hear me, and is consoled.
