How Do You Love a Genocidal God?

This isn’t true:

“The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him.” -Ezekiel 18:20

Though we inherit the sinful nature of our fathers, we are not pronounced guilty because of it:

“But suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father commits, and though he sees them, he does not do such things:” -Ezekiel 18:14
Oh but it is that is why we require baptism even if we have never personally sinned.

“Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me:” Exodus 20:5

“A mamzer, that is to say, one born of a prostitute, shall not enter into the church of the Lord, until the tenth generation.” Deuteronomy 23:2

"And you say: Why hath not the son borne the iniquity of his father? Verily, because the son hath wrought judgment and justice, hath kept all my commandments, and done them, living, he shall live. " Ezekial 18:19

The only reason the sins of the father were not upon also his sons in the pasage of Ezekial you quoted where because the son made amends for the fathers sins, such as the Christian does when he receives baptism, you must read the scriptures in their context to understand them.

And why would I pay any heed to anything said by a demon?
He was an angel at the time, not a demon. And the term “demon” wasn’t always negative.
If God is morally arbitrary then He’s not fit to be worshipped. End of story.

If He would condemn an infant who is guilty of no actual, personal sin to eternal damnation because his parents failed to baptise him, then that’s extremely morally arbitrary, isn’t it?
I refute that in my lat post. Those infants don’t face the possability of eternal damnation. It IS morally obsurd, and God congradulates you for surpassing the objections set forth by your dogmatic bretheren. Too many have the view, “God is good, God punishes evil, therefore YOU, Job, are evil.” But Job was chosen for his righteousnes! God Himself had said it!

But the infants never had a chance to hate God. God cut off this ancient curse with the price of sin, blood. And in the infant genocide, God DID “visit” the iniquities of the fathers to their children, because they would carry the same hard-heartedness. But He didn’t condemn them because they were ignorant!

What about those outside the church? Jesus said, “whoever so blasphemes the son of man shall be forgiven” Even though HE IS the church AND salvation, it is alright to reject Him out of ignorance. But NOT out of hard-heartedness “But if one blasphemes the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him in this generation or the next.”

No it is baptism that removes original sin.

No it is baptism that removes original sin.
We are like John the baptist, we can only baptise with water, but Jesus has the power to baptise us with fire! By our testimony we are truly born again. We’re not found guilty because of original sin.

“Whatever is contrary to the Catholic faith is heresy ; whatever is contrary to unity is schism.” Nicholas Heath, Archbishop of York, English Martyr

I truly hope the Catholic Cathederal or what ever it is you catholics use isn’t represened as what you’ve been arguing with. Otherwise, Scripture is considered heresy by the Catholic church.

=MrZetterlund;6755356]I have no idea why I decided to just type this out of sheer impulse, but here’s what I wrote about God:
"Sometimes I wonder…. How can I possibly love such a God? Everything from smashing baby’s skulls against rocks, to desolating entire cities for idolatry, to almost destroying Moses simply for being uncircumcised! Is this truly the God who rescued the slaves in Egypt?
I don’t recall GOD smahing any babies skulls.🤷
As for Moses; it was NOT being uncircumsized that was the problem. It was pridefilled disobedience to God’s instructions. Numbers Num.20: 10-11" And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?” And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his rod twice; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their cattle"
God told Moses to strike in only ONCE! Exod.17:: 6 “Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel."
Why so severe? **Matt.13: 12 **“For to him who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”
The more Grace one is given, the more severely one will be judged.
When your own prophet, Ezekiel, expressed his moral outrage at your actions, you merely expressed that you were responding with judgment. You stated there was, “much bloodshed in the land.” Are our iniquities truly that significant in your eyes?
Would you mind sharing the verses so I can see the context?
I feel as though I was saved by a maniac. Who knew that the Light that unlocked my prison cell would be a genocidal mad man? You are truly the only sane mad man I know. You are a strange God, how you treasure the lowly things. What am I but an ameba taken from the ocean, formed in the shape of a god? Yet you’ve given me dominion over all the livestock, and the intelligence to create and destroy. I can feel your commandments pressing against my heart. You want me to spread the message you’ve prepared for the world. I’ll never understand why the world desires their prison cells. Cell walls won’t stand forever, but your kingdom will replace their ruins. Like a good Father, you chastise me. You correct my every step so that I can emanate what is only less of a fraction, of a fraction’s fraction, of your glorious splendor. You, in your righteousness, prefer that I question your fairness rather than accept inexplicable injustice.
***I greatly admire your passion; even when it includes a lack of understanding.

God reads the hearts and minds of humanity; not simply there actions. In EVRY case of slaughter; God had the Spiritual welfare of His “Chosen People” as grounds for His just action.

As the Jewish ntion and tee reltionship with Yahweh was being formed; the land was pregnant with false gods and false religions; all easier to understand and practice in a worldly esnse; than the Covenant of God and the Hebrews.

God took the necessary corrective action to enable them to follow Him.

The God you describle simply cannot exist and still “be-God.”*** God is all good things perfected." Evil and bad things are contrary to God’s unchangeable nature.

Heb.6: 16-17 “So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he interposed with an oath, so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible that God should prove false, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.”
I face the greatest test, trying to defend your righteousness. Such a violent God, yet so loving? How do you make such contradicting qualities compatible? Oh yeah, your God."

Defense is unwarantd and unnecessary; an explaination surfices.👍

Love and prayers,
Pat

Zutterland, you bleed internally. If you don’t seek answers (and you said you are not seeking answers) then your faith is in danger of dying. Please be receptive to answers. The devil looms around. He’s been attacking others lately…

Will you be receptive to some answers to help ease your fears and doubts?

Please?

Just remember that God knows what’s it’s like to suffer and have an innocent son die, too.

Not if we failed to do what He created us to do, then it would be perfectly logical, you make something and it doesn’t work so your unmake it and start again. Just like happened at the flood.
But why would He create us in the First place, He is God, He knows what our choices are in advance because He is God, So He has knowledge of our eventual choices but He still gives us opportunity’s to change, so why would he create us and then destroy us because we chose sin. He Gave us this choice out of His Love, if we were bound to Him we would be robots and there would be no sin, but there is and it is a consequence of that free choice. To destroy us for choosing against Him would not not be Love, and God is Love, Just read a bit of the NT for that
Advocatus Fidei:
Truly amazing. He appears before us a a lam, yet it’s like having a relationship with a vicious lion, or a bull that charges at the sight of an odd-colored piece of fabric.
So your calling God evil…your calling Jesus a liar(as pertaining to what He said of His Father)…that’s biblicly sound:rolleyes:

Our God is a Stearn and Jealous God, but He is also Loving and Merciful, besides who are WE to Judge actions of GOD?

I never said that second quote you have the wrong person.

So you’re saying that God is morally arbitrary? I think it’s really important that this noxious idea be forcefully rejected.
No. God is not arbitrary, except from our faulty viewpoint. He has a plan. We don’t need to understand or agree with His plan. He is outside of time and sees the past, present, and future like we do the present moment. Everything God does is perfect. It’s perfect whether we understand the reasons behind it or not. It is not for us to judge God.

Hello.

I know I still need to get one (one=a Bible commentary), but do you have a good, solid Ignatius Catholic Bible with a commentary?

I also have heard Father John Corapi suggest the Navarre Bible as the best guide he’s come across so far when reading the scriptures.

I’d also suggest asking one of the apologists on this site your question since I don’t know enough to answer it well.

Many blessings, and keep asking. “Seek and ye shall find!”
