I have no idea why I decided to just type this out of sheer impulse, but here’s what I wrote about God:
“Sometimes I wonder…. How can I possibly love such a God? Everything from smashing baby’s skulls against rocks, to desolating entire cities for idolatry, to almost destroying Moses simply for being uncircumcised! Is this truly the God who rescued the slaves in Egypt? Is this truly the God who balances the laws of nature to sustain us? Is this truly the God who desires we love our enemies? Is this truly the God who manifested Himself to pay for our iniquities? Did you see the babies as potential a threat, Lord? Did you for-see that one of them had the potential of becoming like Moses? That he’d see the calamities of his predecessors and, when he matures, lead a rebellion against your divine plan? You, my God, are terrifying. Is your omnipotence a curse to us all? When your own prophet, Ezekiel, expressed his moral outrage at your actions, you merely expressed that you were responding with judgment. You stated there was, “much bloodshed in the land.” Are our iniquities truly that significant in your eyes? Does Satan boast about his victories over our hearts too often? You truly terrify me, though that is not why I worship you. When I was dark, you shown me the light. When I was a captive, you set me free. When I was my own worst enemy, you baptized me with fire. And I loved you. Like a companion in arms, I boast about your love and greatness. I treasure your teachings and this divine wisdom you keep hidden from the natural man. I feel as though I was saved by a maniac. Who knew that the Light that unlocked my prison cell would be a genocidal mad man? You are truly the only sane mad man I know. You are a strange God, how you treasure the lowly things. What am I but an ameba taken from the ocean, formed in the shape of a god? Yet you’ve given me dominion over all the livestock, and the intelligence to create and destroy. I can feel your commandments pressing against my heart. You want me to spread the message you’ve prepared for the world. I’ll never understand why the world desires their prison cells. Cell walls won’t stand forever, but your kingdom will replace their ruins. Like a good Father, you chastise me. You correct my every step so that I can emanate what is only less of a fraction, of a fraction’s fraction, of your glorious splendor. You, in your righteousness, prefer that I question your fairness rather than accept inexplicable injustice. I face the greatest test, trying to defend your righteousness. Such a violent God, yet so loving? How do you make such contradicting qualities compatible? Oh yeah, your God.”
