Just a simple question. No abstract answers like “my whole life is a prayer” please, I simply want to know how you pray. Like, do you pray one Rosary a day? Or do you set aside 20 some minutes for divine conversation?

This is my intended “schedule”, for whatever it’s worth to you.

Morning offering as I’m getting dressed in the morning.
Read one chapter of Bible in the morning (No Bible, no breakfast…)
Rosary as I’m walking during the day.
Jesus prayer as often as I can throughout the day - I often sing it (in my head).
Spontaneous meditation whenever I can.
Read one chapter of the Bible at night (…No Bible, no Bed)
Act of contrition at night, and prayers with little daughter, and prayer with husband.

So, why do you ask?

Ist thing as I awake-Creed, Our Father, Hail Mary
Magnificat or daily reading( Lauds)
Try for 4 Rosaries daily usu 3+
Pray before Mass
Daily Mass/Eucharist (unless sick, or no Mass is offered )
Pray after Mass
Holy Hour @ 3 - Stations and Divine Mercy Chaplet, Adoration
When not too tired-evening prayers and exam. of conscience

And yes, I do know that this is not enough.

I think each person can work out for themselves a routine of prayer. Some pray Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer…others may add Night prayer …others may pray more…some perhaps simply 15, 20 or half an hour in private prayer/meditation…some simply say a Rosary…and so on and so forth. One may at no pre-determined times during the day (whenever it occurs to one) raise in some way just for a moment one’s mind and heart to God with perhaps a short aspiration e.g. “Jesus I trust you, please increase my Faith”…something like that. It is always very helpful to have a spiritual director, but not absolutely necessary unless perhaps one wants to sort out some question or has a problem…ask advice. The heart and mind that honestly seeks The Lord shall never seek in vain.
The important think I think is that when one does pray one strives to elevate the mind and heart to God…to spend the time with Him. Better five minutes a day that way, then three hours trying to log up a time factor goal for oneself. Sometimes prayer can go extremely well and one seems to touch the heavens, sometimes one may struggle intermittantly with distractions, or perhaps all the time with distractions…these things (amongst others) are why a good spiritual director is pure gold.

My previous director had a wonderful little maxim: “Pray as you can, not as you can’t”.

God’s Blessings on your seeking…Barb:)

everyday i pray the breviary. I pray it in the morning, noon, evening, and before i sleep. I case i cannot use my breviary due to abnormal circumstances, i pray rosary once a day, or pray the angelus once in the morning, noon, evening, and before i sleep.

I think of praying as lifetyle, my daily pattern of behavior. If others can have a lifestyle of lets say smoking which consumes time and effort then why can’t use praying as my alternative lifestyle which equally use time and effort in a beneficial way.

Every Morning begins with the Liturgy of the Hours, Morning Prayer.

Throughout the day, I say the Jesus Prayer.

Rosary during my walk at lunchtime

Evening Prayer, the Liturgy of the Hours followed by
Centering Prayer

When I get up, I take about 10 minutes in prayer. I’ll often use a prayerbook. I find it helps me concentrate. I read from the Missal during my breaks at work. I say the Rosary once a day and read from the Bible on average 1-3 times during the week.

this is a personal quest between you and God. It is all in how you feel comfortable and what touches your heart. For years I prayed the rosary. Then I felt compelled to pray novenas. Now I am at a level where I “talk” to my Lord every moment. No kidding. It all the time. In my head. Look at the beauty around you. Even in the smallest things. Thank him and give him glory. I am truly devoted t the Divine Mercy now and that is the level I am most devoted to. The chaplet, the whole concept of his mercy. But that is me. Find a saint, if you want to, or our wonderful mother, Mary. Go to a place of quietness and your heart will tell you. The Holy Spirit will tell you the best way for you to connect. No sense praying if you don’t connect spiritually. God Bless You.

  1. Our Father upon waking and before my feet touch the floor.
  2. Act of contrition as above.
  3. Prayer of thanks before every meal
  4. Spontaneous prayer as needed or as inspired during the day
  5. 30-45 minutes of prayer before retiring for the evening.
  6. Daily visits to the prayer intentions threads
Also, 1-2 Holy Hours per week and Stations of the cross on Lenten Fridays. But, I’m working on it.

Christ’s peace be with you.

I pray the rosary, daily. The prayer to my guardian angel regularly throughout the day. Any time I find a penny, a nickel or other small curency, I thank my guardian angel. Not because of the money but because it is a regular occurence that I use to remind me to say, “Angele Dei, qui custos est mei…” And the prayer to St. Michael Archangel whenever I feel the attack of Lucifer. That too is a regular occurence. 🙂

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

Prayer is a very personal thing, and only you can decide what brings you closer to God. I personally try to pray as follows:

Morning-
morning offering, prayer to guardian angel, and 3 hail mary’s
Morning prayer from liturgy of the hours.

Afternoon-
Daily Mass, Angelus, and Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Evening-
Evening prayer from liturgy of the hours. Rosary.

Night-
Lectio Divina ( normally on mass readings for the day.) Night prayer from liturgy of the hours.

Bedtime-
Examination of conscience, act of contrition, and three hail mary’s.

Personal prayer throughout the day.

I don’t really have a scheduled prayer life, other than Sunday Mass and regular Confession. I also pray with the kids any time I’m teaching, etc.

I mostly pray when I think of it, and I just pray about whatever I’m thinking of at the time.

I pray an hour in the morning. I have a set routine which I
change all around to my heart’s content as I get new ideas
or get rid of what’s not working. It would take a long time to
explain my current prayers.

I say the Chaplet of St. Michael, in the morning…

The Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, at midday…
(I used to say the Chaplet of Divine Mercy in the evening… but found I had more energy for it… at midday).

In the evening, I say the Memorare and evening prayers from a Catholic prayer book.

I won’t say that my “whole life is a prayer”. But in the morning, I do offer my day to God. And in the evening, thank Him for preserving us through the day. I’ve heard that is a very good thing to do. God bless.

I start my day with a morning prayer. Then I would recite the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy and the Divine Mercy Novena.

I try to pray the Rosary in the afternoon.

In the evening, I pray Act of Contrition, Novena to Fatima, Prayer to Saints, prayer for the healing of illnesses and other special intentions, prayer of Thanksgiving and lastly prayer to Mama Mary.

I try to say the Rosary everyday. I go through periods where I really can do that, and other times where no matter how much I want to, I just can’t. Usally I will just pray (talk) to Mary then. I say the Memorare if I am really hurting. I talk to Jesus through out the day too. Many days I am in the midst of a novena as well. Just finished one to St. Jude, and now I am praying a novena to St. Therese.

I have found that this is the minimum amount of prayer I can do and still get through a stressful job and home life. With less prayer than this, the day falls apart; with more, it goes better:

Morning Prayer is about an hour, because this is when I have the luxury of an uninterrupted hour. (LOTH and intercessory prayer)

Noon Mass followed by a Chaplet of Mercy during my lunch hour. I’m at work at 3:00 on weekdays so I say the Chaplet of Mercy after daily Mass during the week and at 3:00 on the weekends.

Evening Prayer and meditation on Scripture. I’m in an intensive Catholic Bible study with lots of reading. I find that I have to read the assigned Scripture chapters once or twice for content and then pray the same Scripture passages for spiritual growth.

Two hours of Eucharistic Adoration a week. Don’t ask me what goes on here. I’m like a deer caught in headlights for two hours and then I go home.

At least two novenas (Advent and Lent) per year as well as the Divine Mercy novena from Good Friday to Holy Saturday.

Also a yearly retreat or pilgrimage (3-7 days depending on my finances) which is almost all prayer.

Throughout the day I apply short bursts of prayer like Spray and Wash on all the little dirty spots in my life. For the big stains, I go to Confession.

Why do you ask?

No set prayers, but I pray everyday. Usually I say prayers as I walk from the parking garage to work. I say the Angelus at noon when the bell rings, I pray everytime I hear a siren. Where I live, there are a number of road side crosses where people have been killed in accidents. I pray when I pass one. I make a holy hour a week.
